Pakistan and bomb attacks. There’s hardly ever a surprise when the two find each other. Increasingly, instances of mass violence and sieges in Pakistan have increased so much that there’s hardly a day that goes without news reporting in about a major mishap in this volatile region in the Asian subcontinent.
Why is Pakistan in so much of a disarray none can fathom without justifiable detail. So just as the ever pleasant Christmas spirit was about to engulf Pakistan in full bloom, a dire tragedy has struck the country causing great grief.
At least 9 Christian worshippers were killed and several others wounded as two suicide bombers attacked a church in Quetta, south west Pakistan. December 17, 2017, shall for many years be remembered as a black day for several of Pakistan’s innocents who had no clue about what was to entail in the day ahead for them.
While on the one hand, the Islamic State have been nastily dealt with in the Middle East where the Russia-backed Syrian forces have successfully managed to grind back the ludicrous terrorist organisation from principle centres such as Raqqa and Mosul, there’s still believable fear about IS being strongly present in this part of Asia. That said, what Pakistan or India are doing about it isn’t exactly known at this point of time but there is concerned that if this grotesque terror outfit isn’t kept in check then it might prove to be a hard time where civilians’ lives are concerned.
Even as violence and brazen attacks do not discriminate between genders and religions, one is ought to ask as to why would perpetrators make pivotal places of worship- such as a church- as their target? The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the dreaded incident that has shocked Pakistan and brought it to a virtual standstill.
It was soon reported that one attacker detonated an explosives-laden vest at an entrance to the church’s main hall even as the second attacker’s vest failed to detonate, his life ended by a clash with the security forces.
It is reported that as many as 400 worshippers had gathered inside the Bethel Memorial Methodist Church for their morning prayers when the terrible tragedy came striking. Amidst times of festivity with Christmas just around the corner, such a horrific eventuality was not only unpredictable but totally uncalled for.
But if Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Army Chief Qamar Bajwa are to be believed, the nation’s forces will be seriously hunting down the perpetrators and will do more than simply snub the instance as a condemnable attack on Pakistan’s innocent.
