Naftali Bennett Receives Death Threat And Bullet In Mail!

Anyone who says or said previously that not a day goes by in the lifeline of Israel, past or present, where the country doesn’t experience a dramatic day or event was neither wrong nor lying. So how is that?

Something or the other, more often than not, tends to creeps up on Israel’s doors, truth be known. When there is no drama on the West Bank settlements, there are some cross border firings and shelling that take place from Palestine.

And that’s not all; when there is none of that, then there are often those days where there is some suspected bomb explosion threat in any of the crowded markets, whether one speaks of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa or Ashkelon, to give an example.

Few nation states are so frequently pressed by an alarming threat to their own sovereignty as Israel, which continues to fight resolutely and determinedly to defend its identity and those of its people.

But a recent event that transpired on April 28, 2022 actually rocked the cradle of the political establishment of the country, or rather, make that the most important political luminary of the country. We are speaking of none other than Naftali Benett, the current serving prime Minister of Israel.

A few hours back, he was delivered a bullet in mail and was the target of a direct death threat. And then as more news pieces began to cover the story, it turned out that the real target of the threat may actually have been Naftali Bennett’s son, who is no more than seventeen years old.

And while we have the free thinking license to think whether the Israeli Mossad has been posted on the case as may have other channels of the usually scrupulous Israeli intelligence network, the following information came to light basis a news report published on The Hindustan Times:

According to an Israeli official familiar with the matter, the target of the threats was Bennett’s 17-year-old son. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

Officials have not said who might be behind the threats.

Bennett, who leads a small nationalist party, has come under heavy criticism from Israeli hard-liners who accuse him of abandoning his ideology. In 1995, Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated by a Jewish ultranationalist opposed to his peacemaking attempts with the Palestinians.

Also, tensions have been heightened with the Palestinians recently following a series of deadly Palestinian attacks in Israeli cities, Israeli military raids in the occupied West Bank and clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police at a sensitive Jerusalem holy site.

Moving on, it’s important to note that in a recent speech of his, Naftali Bennett had spoken and cautioned his everyday countrymen about the deeply rooted polarising elements in the society that have the power to cause turmoil and divide the country in different parts and groups. So could anyone belonging to one of these factions that perhaps do not like unity as such may have been responsible for issuing the threats to Bennett?
