India Calls For Peace In Israel-Palestine Talks Basis International Consensus

On the one hand there stands Palestine on the cusp of the upcoming elections. And then, on the other stands Israel, the strongman of the Middle-East, attempting to form a new government albeit with the incumbent Prime Minister Netanyahu perhaps staring at what seems to be his unclear future. There’s no better time to broker peace in that part of the world where the term normalcy and peace seem stranger than fiction.

And amid these interesting times, India, a country that’s a friend to both embittered neighbors is batting for peace in the Israel-Palestine ties. Can anything be more beautiful and headline-worthy?

In an interesting piece of news, India has suggested that Israel and Palestine must walk the long path toward peace at a time where the international community is also rallying behind the idea of peaceful co-existence between the two.

Enmity stemming from disparaging difference of opinion on territorial divides have long marred Israel and Palestine, the Jewish state coming to existence not before the year 1948.

What the world has witnessed largely since has been a constant expansion of Israeli presence in what Palestine asserts is ‘exclusively’ its own land, a sort of sanctimonious attack by the Jewish state to its sovereignty.

Which nation-state, therefore, has the final right over Jerusalem, the issue of refugees and borders has been a burning topic ravaging opinion and stifling any chances of peace for decades put together.

The only hope, if one must put it that way, is in the two-state solution, an idea that calls for peaceful co-existence of both countries along one other’s side. Now on its part, India has, for year together, called for peace between Israel and Palestine, advocating support towards the two-state solution, an idea behind which it has rallied support once more as the calls for Israel and Palestine to reach truce grew louder in the imminent past.

Encouraging both nation-states to engage in meaningful talks once again, India called on Israel and Palestine to work toward the idea of the Two-State solution basis a latest global consensus at a time where both regions are standing on the cusp of forming new government.

Furthermore, on India’s part TS Tirumurti, India’s permanent representative to the United Nations Ambassador highlighted the importance of these interesting times stressing on the importance of the upcoming months.

That said, here’s what a report published on Business Standard happened to highlight on the developing story:

Voicing appreciation for the efforts by the Quartet and other countries towards resuming direct negotiations between the parties, Tirumurti said India will support all international efforts, including the peace conference called by President Mahmoud Abbas, that attempt to achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. New Delhi stands ready to contribute constructively to such efforts, he said.

Tirumurti said resolution 2334 adopted by the Security Council calls for advancing the two-state solution through negotiations as well as to reverse negative trends on the ground, which includes settlements.

“We urge parties to refrain from all unilateral measures that vitiate conditions necessary for promoting peace and instead focus on bridging the trust deficit. He noted that Resolution 2334 also calls for preventing all acts of violence against civilians, including acts of terror, and for both parties to refrain from provocative acts of incitement and inflammatory rhetoric.”
