Given the massive state of disarray prevailing in Iraq, it is hardly a surprise to note that the country is in shambles. If classicists, aware of the reign of tyranny during former leader Saddam’s rule had labeled Iraq to be a hell-hole of chaos, terror and disorder only during that time, then old fears were revived thanks to the brazen attacks leveled against the country by the ill-fated terror outfit ISIS. The country is bleeding and hoping against hope for a change. Many a world’s country is thinking cohesively about chalking out a plan to bail out Iraq and rescue the nation from its current state of turmoil.
Meanwhile, a leading power of the East, India has vowed to participate in state of nation-building of Iraq so as to resuscitate it from its state of near helplessness. In fact, India has gone a step ahead and called for political resettlement and reconciliation at a recent conference titled, “ International Conference for Resettlement of Iraq”, that took place in Kuwait where India’s Prime Minister Modi was among the dignitaries present.
In the said conference, one of the key figures was the Union Minister of State of External Affairs, M.J. Akbar. He announced that India will be key participant toward enabling Iraq to walk the long road toward normality. Countries are coming together in support of a wounded Iraq calling for an end to terrorism. As of today, myriad sectors in the country need a phase of massive rebuilding such as petrochemicals, health, education and infrastructure. In this regard, India is keen to participate in project-specific proposals.
It is also believed that India will be keen to participate in several projects that are part of the rehabilitation process of Iraq. Kuwait, traditionally a strong ally of Iraq has already begun being a recipient of stuff like essential supplies, equipments as well as receiving promises and assurances of billions of dollars in the form of lines of credit by nation states that seek to partner with Iraq in its onerous process of normalisation. Years of being at the receiving end of savagery, having waged war with the dreaded Islamic state has pushed Baghdad back by a several years as the country reels in widespread torment. But that said, let’s hope the road to normalisation is a smooth one, sans any hurdles for Iraq.
