Our environment is under a constant threat and every now and then we get to experience a fresh example of it. From floods to earthquakes, different corners of our world has already been devastated by these disasters, this year and overall there has been a great loss of lives, claimed by them.
On Sunday, as per the local time 9.20 pm, the northern border regions between Iran and Iraq were hit by an earthquake with a powerful magnitude of 7.3 on the Richter Scale. As per Iran’s state agency, the earthquake has till now claimed more than 400 lives and left 6,700 people injured. Local officials said the toll was likely to rise as search and rescue teams reached remote areas. More than 70,000 people were in need of emergency shelter, the Iranian Red Crescent said, as reported by The Guardian.
One of the hardest hit provinces was Kermanshah, where the authorities have already announced three days of mourning.
Among thousands of people who experienced this deadly earthquake, was a Kurdish channel Rudaw TV. Based in the city of Erbil in Iraq, a live interview was being aired by the channel with the guest in the city of Sulaimaniya when the tremors began, suddenly. The guest immediately left the interview to get out of the building and within few seconds, even the anchor of the show started to feel the tremors. However, he made an orderly exit only after explaining the entire situation to his viewers. He told viewers: “The earthquake is strong, so for our safety, we are going to go outside. Thank you very much.”
