Finland Shining Bright With Tree Hugging World Championships!

Finland might be known for its penchant for motor-racing, especially rally-driving, the classic very ‘cult-like’ image of being strictly tight lipped, rather make that a bit anti-social (you’ll be replied when you ask something, won’t be initiated a conversation with), or the love for Sauna, which happens all around the year. Furthermore, Finland might be known for the talent an skill of a rather young political set-up headed by current Prime Minister Sana Marin, who’s all of 36!

But there’s yet more to the land of the Santa Claus and the famous Reindeer as also the home to the Northern Lights, this being the country that formed a government agency back in 1937 to handle pension payouts (social benefits)- through Kela!

It’s tree hugging actually that’s making news in Finland, and actually in the whole of Scandinavia at this point in time.

So the key question is- how is that and why, Finland, in particular, is making some noise about the environment through initiatives like tree hugging?

Actually, among the countries that are really environment-savvy and wish to do every bit of effort to up the ante of climate protection and generating awareness about the need to safeguard the environment, Finland is actually doing two things by means of one through initiatives like the 2021-held Tree Hugging world champioship.

So, the key question is- just how is that

  1. Finland is creating more and more awareness in its society about the need to cut down on carbon emissions and getting everyone to know more about the thing that really matters beyond all the trivial matter that there is- trees! And so, what could’ve been better- you ought to ask- besides a tree hugging world championship? Moreover, in the past half a decade, there have been active efforts to provide an inlet to increase the dialogue or interaction between the society and the environment, through efforts like planting more and more trees!

2. Through programmes or initiatives such as this, one can foster greater community engagement across different sections of the society.

For the above is a means to get everyone together to interact with the environment, which we often tend to ignore- do we not?

So, that being said, the following is what the famous national capital-based Helsinki Times had to report on the matter:

The championship, which only began last year, includes three categories of tree hugging: speed hugging, dedication and freestyle hugging. This year’s event included contestants (all residents of the nearby town of Levi) representing Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Australia, Scotland, Hungary and Spain.

Owing to travel restrictions, attendance was by invitation only; however, the organisers have encouraged anyone interested to participate in the online TreeHugging World Championships 2021. Contestants can submit a picture of themselves hugging their favourite tree by 28 August.
