Soon, You Could See Solar Powered Cars In Finland!

One could actually get to see solar powered cars in Finland and that’s a development that may not take that long to take full shape. We are, without a doubt, in an interesting era; a period of time where urban mobility is authoring new chapters with each passing year. Fuel-powered cars are on their way out with battery-powered machines running on roads with rich aplomb.

Of course, from a global standpoint, talk has even begun about hydrogen-powered four wheelers to take hot shape but one reckons it may take some more time for that to happen in the mainstream.

But that being said, at a time where much of the talk is usually about Electric Vehicles, here comes some interesting news about solar powered cars in Finland.

If things go according to plans, then the day is not far where solar powered cars in Finland would be a thing of normality, besides being a pleasant sight to behold.

Where current news updates stand, Germany and Finland are closely interacting with one another to develop solar powered cars in Finland, a breakthrough development that holds the power to change the landscape of urban mobility in the Sanna Marin-led country.

But that being told, how is all of that happening in the first place? Just who’s at the centrestage of developing solar powered vehicles in Finland?

So apparently, a German auto start up brand by the name of Sono is all set to produce the first line of solar cars in the Nordic nation. But the development is taking shape with concerted efforts of supplier Valmet Automotive.

As a matter of fact, the Germany-based Sono Motors were, at one point in time, all set to go ahead with the electric car making department of Chinese firm Evergrande, which is actually a property developer. But now that alliance stands defunct.

That being said, here are some salient highlights on the Finland-bound development as published on leading auto daily AutoNews:

The company had said in 2019 its production partner would be National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS), the Swedish electric vehicle unit of Evergrande Group, but a binding agreement was not signed.

Sono, founded in 2016 in Munich, is developing a full-electric vehicle with solar cells integrated into the body, boosting the car’s range by an average of 70 miles(112 km) per week beyond the 190-mile (305 km) range of its battery.

Sono, which began trading on the NASDAQ in November to try to attract early-stage investors after finding itself on the brink of insolvency, is currently working to validate its mass production plans with vehicles being built in Germany.

It expects to produce a low four-digit volume of cars in its first year, with a view to ramping up to 43,000 a year, it said.

That being told, in a country where some of the most famous and commonly-sighted car brands happen to be Kia Motors, Skoda, Volvo and Volkswagen, it may no longer be outdated to suggest that soon one will get to hear about Sono with the change in the tide!
