More People Die In France Annually Than From Covid-19 Virus, On An Average

The Coronavirus pandemic scare, given that it claimed, as on August 7, 2020, a little over 7,24,000 lives, could somewhere have become a scenario wherein the larger focus rests only on the lives claimed, and not so much on the overall number of recoveries.

For if one were to do so, it wouldn’t become that hard to understand that those who’ve recovered as on date measure nearly over 12,50,000!

Is that a tiny number?

What must be understood as a positive but isn’t- given the number of recoveries is closing on double vis-a-vis the lives claimed by the very deadly virus- says a thing or two about the fact that we might have gotten into the rut of being panic-stricken.

And while it’s not that hard to know why, since it is, at the end of it all, a pandemic that’s killed lakhs, you tend to understand the overall grimness of the disease by simply visiting a statistic that even though reads random, is telling.

For instance, let’s take the example of France, a country where as on date, nearly 30,000 have lost their lives owing to the deadly scare.

What if someone asked you the number of fatalities that occur each year owing to what are simple road accidents?

On an average, a report from The Telegraph shared that while it’s reasonable and only logical to observe safety measures and tread cautiously, there’s little need to panic, since on an average, there are more who perish in France each year to road accidents than they are to the COVID-19 virus.

As a matter of fact, a report published in Connexion France suggested the following:

In 2019, 3,239 people died on the roads in mainland France, nine fewer than in 2018 – a drop of 0.3%.

But given that in the last two days, as a matter of fact, the Macron-led country recorded a record-high number of cases vis-a-vis the last two months, a sense of panic has engulfed the country’s denizens.

In the last 24 hours, believed to be really challenging for the Western European power, showed 1,695 new cases.

New quarantine centres are emerging in France, as per the latest reports and this, as an effect, also enforces travel restrictions, so much so that the holidaymakers will certainly not be chuffed by the ongoing crisis, if one were to put it that way.

Still, logic prevails and those fond of thinking rationally have simply asked, as also mentioned in UK-based Telegraph, “Whether the situation in France is so bad as to risk ruining the holidays of thousands of British people, not to mention administering another blow to what is usually a flourishing French tourism industry and those important elements of the British travel industry that work with France.”

All of that being said, while it’s obviously understood to take precautions and maybe not venture out needlessly as to be loitering around when one would rather be at one place, it’s vital to note that so far, the number of recoveries of the COVID-19 cases in the country points to nearly 81,000.

Does that tell something about the state of concern surrounding the present situation?
