For The First Time Ever, Paris-Bound Louvre Museum Puts Entire Collection Online!

It’s considered no less than a totemic symbol of exuberance and the magnanimous creativity that art carries. It’s one of the most famous landmarks in the historic city of love, i.e., Paris. While some revere it for being the residence of the great Mona Lisa (a timeless piece of art), others recognize it as a staple apostle of endless inspiration for artists from all walks of life. Whatever it might be, whatever you may call it, there’s no denying the mysticism and intrigue of the great Louvre museum.

The Paris-bound Louvre museum has attracted intrigue and wide fan-following for decades together. In fact, one doesn’t quite know what might the result of a poll squaring the famous Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum bring to the table, but a thing can be said for certain that there would be countless who’d press the buzzer for this picturesque abode of art and endless creativity if such a poll was ever to take place.

But it can be said in no uncertain terms that the COVID 19 pandemic did, as a matter of fact, dull the number of footfalls that the famous Louvres museum attracts year after year. A place that attracts no fewer than 15,000 visitors every passing day, did evidence a sharp decline and understandably so during the peak period of the COVID 19 pandemic last year.

And what’s creating news at this point in time will only interest fans interested in knowing about the priceless home of masterpieces across different generations.

So the question is, what’s making news about the famous Louvres museum in Paris at this point?

Well, believe it or not, but the Louvres has very recently initiated a step that none may have thought would ever occur. As a part of a major revamp effort, the Louvres has actually created a mega online database of all its art collections.

And if you were to know the exact number of the invaluable and timeless items that are now present online, you may be in for a surprise.

Truth be told, the world’s most visited museum and easily the most iconic artistic venue in all of France has created an online database of no fewer than 4,82,000 items.

Now, if that’s not a behemoth figure, then one wonders, what is?

Imagine all the sensational pieces of art that you weren’t able to capture through the mesmerising trap of the naked eye now gathered in an online stack!

Here’s what popular Indian news media, the Hindustan Times happened to report on the story:

It comes after a year of pandemic-related shutdowns that has seen an explosion in visits to its main website, louvre.fr, which has also been given a major makeover.

“It’s a step that has been in preparation for several years with the aim of serving the general public as well as researchers. Accessibility is at the heart of our mission,” said president-director Jean-Luc Martinez.

The new database includes not only items on public display in the museum but also those in storage, including at its new state-of-the-art facility at Lievin in northern France.

But interestingly speaking, that’s not all about this cracker of a news. One doesn’t have to purchase an online ticket or anything of that sort to witness what can be called one of the most staggeringly beautiful accumulations of art, all in one place as it’s free for the public.
