But there’s more to the picturesque Finnish city than just its green pastures. As a matter of factly, there’s a lot happening in this booming economic centre of the Nordic country.

It actually won’t be incorrect to call it a destination for those who wish to discover greener pastures in life.

The capital city of Finland’s region of Paijanne Tavastia attracts entrepreneurs, idea givers, futurists who aim to get ‘somewhere’ ahead of the curve.

And maybe that is why where it stands, Lahti could well become the base of a voice Finland is no stranger to and is indeed, a fan of: Sami Sykko.

Described variously as a fashion reporter, journalist, TV host, and even economist, Sami Sykko is soon going to take up an even more interesting role in Finland.

The 52-year-old Helsinki-born Sami Sykko is going to take up the role of a Professor of Practice at the noted Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology.

Incidentally, Lahti is most noted for being home to the LAB university of Applied Sciences, among the many regarded institutions of the ‘green’ city.

Though, truth be told, it’s not just the university that Sami Sykko is going to teach at, rather what he’s going to teach in his capacity of professor that’s caught the imagination of Finland.

And rather interestingly, also that of Nordic Europe.

You can call it captivating, funny, ‘oh really,’ and the expressions and adjectives could well run into hundreds.

Sami Sykko, commonly identified as the noted commentator on famous figure skating championships, is going to become a professor of TikTok.

You read that right minus a tick or even a fraction of a talk of doubt.

In a recent conversation with Finland’s noted digital platform Yle, here’s what Sami Sykko had to say on what he’s going to do (in Lahti) and why he accepted the part time position:

“In an effort to reach the younger generation, I’ve decided to become Finland’s first TikTok professor.”

That being said, the following is what Yle had to say about the interesting development:

The role of a Professor of Practice resembles more a working life mentor rather than typical professor, and Sykkö is planning to commence his teaching journey with a series of expert master classes.

Professors of Practice typically act as intermediaries between academic research and working life. Last year, presenter and inventor Jamie Hyneman, famous for the television show Mythbusters, took on the same position at LUT University.

Päijät-Häme bank co-ops are supporting the professorship with a grant of 140,000 euros.

Having said that, it’s rather interesting that in today’s world, we are no longer only only bound by avenues belonging to conventional vocations such as medicine, engineering or so on and so forth.

And while it’s a necessary evil of sorts, one can’t help but state that it is thanks to social media and the infinite possibilities it presents that we can actually “teach” an entertainment-based app, however polarising that it may seem to the world.
