Is Paris Working Closely Toward Implementing A Complete Car Ban?

It’s a city you head to especially when wanting to plan a romantic getaway from your usual place of existence. It’s a marvellous idea for a retreat. It’s more than just a getaway; it’s perhaps the most paramount definition of a romantic escapade that there is. There are cities all around it and there are plenty to even count all across the maddening world but there’s none like it, none like Paris.

And now, Paris is planning to meticulously correct a jarring woe that crippled much of its urban landscape, something that’s made frequent headlines over the years akin to the constantly changing approval ratings garnered by President Macron.

While the larger world, Paris is about music, song and dance and romance, to those who dwell in the much-loved destination, one of the great nadirs of living in the world city is its consummate traffic.

Today, frankly speaking, the way you can’t imagine Paris without Eiffel Tower, you simply can’t imagine the sparkling city without its backbreaking traffic. And it’s rather true for some of the world’s most widely-visited, frequently-noted and admired cities, whether one speaks of London, New York, Milan… and now, Paris!

In a bid to urgently attend to the rising levels of pollution in the heartland of the French capital and offer a sense of freeness and direction of the urban chaos that is commuting in the city, authorities are toying with the idea of implementing a complete car ban in Paris.

Yes, surprising that this may seem or sound, a complete car ban in Paris.

But having said that, it now appears that the car ban in Paris will actually happen, rather is being planned for 2024, instead of 2022, which was the original target. The move, reports and authorities say, is directed toward decreasing the decongestion that constant traffic snarls lead to and thereby, improving the air quality of the city.

That told, could there be something else to the way the authorities have thought about dealing with the ensuing Parisian chaos?

Apparently, the fact that the world famous destination, a giver of instantaneous joy to artists and creators is due to host the Olympic Games in 2024 is also a reason why sensible planning toward managing the city traffic is being addressed and rather urgently so.

Meanwhile, the following key excerpts emerged on a trending story regarding the car ban in Paris on The Verge and it’s key to note:

The so-called “tranquil zone” will focus on the city’s first four arrondissements, according to The Local, and includes the city’s two islands on the Seine which host the Notre-Dame cathedral and Sainte-Chapelle. City authorities say that the current plan is to enforce the zone with random spot checks of vehicles exiting the area. Rather than banning all private vehicles, it will target through-traffic that’s thought to make up around half of vehicles on the roads in the area. Delivery drivers will still have access, and people will still be able to drive into the area to visit friends, or access amenities like shops or the theater according to the city’s deputy mayor David Belliard. It’s estimated that the ban will take over 100,000 cars off the roads daily, according to Bloomberg.
