A wedding is always a great fun. A time for great bonding, a period of joy marked with festivities and celebrations and, above all- a reason to simply celebrate oneself amid this great life. Isn’t it? It’s something that happens once, well, at least for most of us.
So recently when a mum from England got an invitation for being part of a wedding, and an away wedding at that, she was naturally excited. Keen to travel along with her son, this English mum- apparently by the name of Ashley W- was excited to take part in her cousin’s wedding. This would be no regular wedding, after all.
She had been invited to visit Australia. Full of enthusiasm and excitement surrounding the impending wedding Down Under, things soon would turn out to be a bit lacklustre. In fact, rather loathsome where this mum and her young toddler daughter were concerned. Here’s exactly what happened.
The getaway to Australia would soon turn out to be a bit of a nightmare for the mother-daughter duo. Apparently, when Ashley W arrived at the destination in Australia, it appeared that she would have to find a babysitter for her daughter. To her utter dismay, obviously, this is something that Ashley hadn’t expected at all. The grim picture would turn even worse. She was told that kids or children were not invited to the wedding.
There was a ridiculous truth to this entire wedding thing and certainly something that Ashley hadn’t even prepared for. Unless and until one would find a babysitter for one’s kid or, say even kids, you just couldn’t participate in the wedding ceremonies at all. Strange things happen all the time. But this was a rather absurd occurrence, especially considering that the wedding was no one else’s but Ashley’s cousin. No clemency whatsoever.
So here’s what further happened. The surprising thing about the whole wedding year was that Ashley, back in England now, had been aware of the nuptials much prior to the wedding date. In fact, she’d known of the whole affair for at least about a year in advance. And funnily, there was no mention of anything even remotely close to the whole babysitting thing.
Which is precisely why Ashley was concerned and even angry which is, well, the most obvious emotion in this case. No one had told her that the baby would not be welcome at the ceremony.
Now, if you were to actually think about it then you would find two awful things. First of all, it’s terribly hard for a parent to travel with a newborn. Secondly, undertaking an overseas journey with a hand-held child is often more onerous a task than what one can possibly imagine. Isn’t it? In this case, there is no other way but feel extremely sorry for poor Ashley.
And there’s another thing in this. To be part of her cousin’s wedding, this English mum who shared her entire incident to an online blogger’s community- Netmums- also revealed that the entire thing regarding the wedding cost her a bomb. In fact, it cost her somewhere close to £4,000. Now, that’s quite a figure, isn’t it?
Funnily enough, by the time the official invite for the wedding turned up, it was already too late for the woman to cancel or reorganize her flight and trip tickets. This was no less than three weeks from the actual date of the wedding. And obviously, there was nothing that she could have possibly done to make alternate travel arrangements.
Ashley recently spoke to popular British tabloid The Mirror and shared her strange experienced.
She said: “My cousin invited us to his wedding in Australia with 12 months notice.
“Sent us an email with the date no further info. My daughter is five months old. So my family said we would attend and we bought the flights.”
It’s rather bizarre that prior to leaving for Australia, the English mum had checked for the invitation a lot many times but it only arrived at the last moment. To even think of it, is slightly strange. To be flying from one part of the world to another, carrying a young toddler, a baby who is only 5-months old and then to be denied participating in the wedding- what sort of a bizarre experience is that?
