Celebrate “World Poetry Day” With These 12 Excerpts By Genius Poets

21st March is observed as “World Poetry Day” by the United Nations. The day was first brought out to celebrate the fact that poetry binds human beings, no matter where you’re from or where you’re going, you can relate to words written by others.

However, many fail to define this term – Poetry – which is present all around us. We have grown up with it and probably will die with it because the beauty of poetry is irreplaceable.

One of our favourites, Dead Poets Society had a scene where Late Robin Williams explained the importance of poetry and gave an answer to, why do we read and write poetry? As he says,

– We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute.
We read and write poetry because we are the member of human race, and the human race is filled with passion. Poetry is the thing that we stay alive for.

These words can be too influential for many in order to understand the significance of poetry in our daily lives.

Renowned poet, Wordsworth defined poetry as “the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings”. These words alone can describe the chronicle of how with poetry, one can explain a thousand feelings in small sentences.

On this World Poetry Day, we decided to gather some of the most beautifully written excerpts by the darlings of the poetry world. These poets and their poems have done the impossible of being relatable, even hundreds of years after their existence. We can still rise through Maya Angelou’s words or believe in ourselves and the paths that we take on through Robert Frost’s words. All this is nothing short of a miracle that we never want to let go of.

Here are 12 excerpts from some of the most beautiful poems, this World Poetry Day.
