Fairytales have something extremely shitty about them and most of the time, we are not even aware of it, and simply go on feeding the same crap to 3 to 9-year-olds, since almost 2 centuries. Isn’t that weird and completely bizarre? Because the last time we checked, the world had completely changed and so was the mindset of people. But something this easy is still very troublesome to get across.
With this simple idea, two women have come together to explain their book with the support of Cinderella in the male avatar. Just think for a moment, if Cinderella were a guy, would people be reading the story to their sons. The basic plot of Cinderella was that a young girl has been time and again tortured by her stepmother and stepsisters. She wanted to go to a ball, however, these evil women in her life stopped her from doing so, Cinderella wept and wept after which a fairy Godmother comes and gives her a new dress and glass heels. Cinderella went for the ball, danced with a prince, rushed for home, left her one heel at the ball, the prince finds the heel and went on to find the real girl of dreams and made everyone try the heels, amusingly no one in the entire town could fit their feet in the heel. But Cinderella did and then the prince married her.
If the same story would have revolved around a guy, it wouldn’t be dragged for so long. The same has been shown in this video.
We need a fixture to this vicious concept of fairytales that should have no place in the 21st century. Two authors, Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo, wrote a children’s book “Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls” which features 100 stories of real women who have achieved incredible things, despite all odds.
The 100 real women come from different walks of life like chefs, painters, astronauts, tennis players and what not. These are some extraordinary women who have changed and are changing the course of history in every field imaginable.
This is high time, we need to teach our girls that they can achieve anything that they want and that Princesses should not be their role models, who were not able to achieve anything without the help of a prince, brother or even a mouse.
