This Slam Poem Aptly Describes The Pain Of Refugees In A New Land

With the rise of terrorism in the world, we are seeing new faces every now and then in our surroundings. Refugees, we call them, unknown faces, is their identity and a distinct culture and language they have, is what people are scared of.

Syria is on the verge of dying with thousands of people being buried in the dump of their own houses that they once grew in. Some of them are reaching out to places outside of their country, in order to look for a much more peaceful future and present for themselves and their kids. However, one thing never leaves them – they are taking over our land, jobs and opportunities, They should go back to their own country.

Ankita Shah and Ramneek Singh beautifully recited a slam poem about this very situation that affects every person in this world, who had to take refuge in another country. They talk about Aleppo in Syria and if you think, that Aleppo is too far from us to even think about, then look closer. Kashmiri Pandits are our own refugees we chose to not even think about. However, these poets and their words take us through the lives of Kashmiri Pandits who were denied basic amenities when they first came to Jammu to take refugee from the atrocities they were suffering from.

Not many know about this, majorly because not many reported about the issue which first entered Jammu some 27 years back, and is still not sent back home. Terrorism has infiltrated the homes of many, while some lost their lives to it, some are running away from the mishaps. If stopping terrorism seems too big of a task to carry on, we can at least help those who have escaped the borders of terrorism and welcome them with open arms and warm hearts.
