5 Surprise Animals On The List Of The Endangered Species That You Probably Didn’t Know

Just a few somber days back, the world lost what was its last white male rhino. It was a moment of great grief, a moment that reverberated across the world. So much so that a memorial was held for what was the last white male rhino on earth. One of the feisty components of the great wild African safari, has been snapped away, permanently into oblivion. Rather, into a fragment of imaginative thinking. It’s no longer alive; it’s a ‘has-been.’ One of the great scourge of our times has been the unprecedented attack mankind has unashamedly extended to animals. While outstanding wildlife protection initiatives like WildLeaks continue to work round the clock, day after day and year after year in their unfailing bid to save endangered species and animals under imminent threat of poaching, we need more actionable outcomes.

We need the world to come together and stand in cohesion, in unison to curtail the ills of poaching and the great travesty that has fallen upon us. That of the endangered species of wild animals.

It is sad and shocking that purely out of greed does mankind stoop to such a level of mental and conscientious disintegration that it cannot keep away from harming a vital component of the ecological chain: the harmless animals. It has to be shared- perhaps repeatedly and in greater alarming terms- as to which wildlife animals happen to be on the endangered list.

Here we re-visit 5 such names among the many that if not cared for and with certainty will head toward the verge of extinction; the point of no return.

Red Panda

World Wildlife Fund

We often hear a great deal about the great giant panda but there’s hardly any dense literature ever that arrests the attention of the common man about the Red Panda. Why that is the case is anyone’s call. But the truth is among the world’s most endangered species is the Red Panda.

The Red Panda with a larger size than the domestic cat and a somewhat close resemblance to the beer-like structure happens to be suffering from dwindling population. It is primarily an herbivore and is widely spread around the Himalayan ranges. It is said that at least 50 per cent of the Red Panda population is spread across Himalayan mountainous regions. At present, the total population of the Red Panda happens to be in the near-about of 10,000, which is a concern in itself.

Sri Lankan Elephant

Youtube

Carefree and harmless, wobbly and fun-loving, could there a more simple and unassuming animal in the world? Did it have to come to this morbid extreme that an animal like the Sri Lankan Elephant had to plummet to the list of the endangered animals? Not only the largest but also among the darkest subspecies of elephants, the habitat of this harmless species is constantly receding. This is thanks to green areas and forests spread in the Sri Lankan island falling under the radar of constant encroachment with the formerly enveloping thick forest cover falling prey to development and construction.

Indus River Dolphin

World Wildlife Fund

Dolphins, by nature are fun-loving, congenial and friendly mammals and are found in plenty across the Indus River in Pakistan where about 1,100 dolphins float about freely in the river’s ever shrinking and challenged basin. But due to a large spread of irrigation system that is forever posing a threat to the river known as the lifeline of Pakistan, the lives of its dolphins are no longer safe. So far, so cohesive measure has been taken in order to safeguard the waning fortunes of the dolphins.

IndoChinese Tiger

Few things can be as beautiful and as regal as the sight of spotting a tiger. Then, it doesn’t matter what subspecies it may be. The IndoChinese Tiger, found in an area encompassing the tropical and subtropical moist broadleaved forests are no longer secure and are severely endangered owing to falling prey of vicious attacks of poachers and hunters. Even as researchers and biologists have severely restricted the number of field surveys in these tigers’ troubled habitats, it remains to be seen if the downward spiral of their population can be collectively reversed. Where the Thailand-Myanmar border is concerned, the number of the IndoChinese Tigers measures up to be only 250.

Black Spider Monkey

Reddit

It is rather sad that the world in a period of few years from now may never see the Black Spider Monkey again. Often, also known as the red faced spider monkey, the Guiana is one of the largest primate species found in South America. But its habitat may no longer be secure as the animal found in large numbers by the side of the Amazon river is continually suffering because of increasing deforestation in the Amazon river area.
