Great news for Supreme Court judges: All set to receive 200% hike

Being part of the judiciary is still very much a privilege. At the same time, it entrusts on legal eagles- professionals in the legal sphere- a great responsibility to uphold the dignity of law and oversee peaceful and valid resolutions of testing situations and realities. But while a lot of focus in today’s day and age rests with fiery lawyers and highly paid specialists, often our judges remain slightly withdrawn from the limelight. Presiding over acrimonious situations, it is the wisdom of the judges and their great intellect that enables justice to prevail no matter what.

That being said, it only calls for fair treatment to find the judges in developing countries, regardless of where they practice being treated equally as their counterparts in the other developed parts of the world. In this regard, a latest news with regards to the salaries extended to judges in India’s Supreme Court brings about massive relief.

Not only those in the Supreme Court of India but also in as many as 24 High Courts will receive an almost 200% salary hike according to latest news and developments. The government put forward a notification in this regard on Tuesday, January 29, 2018. In lines with this increment, the Chief Justice of India will now earn Rs 2.8 lakh, up from Rs 1 lakh. This will also include dearness and other allowances. This latest revised salary figure is in addition to perks such as official residence, cars, staff allowances.

In addition, other judges of the Supreme Court shall now receive a salary of about Rs 2.50 lakh, going up from Rs 90,000. It seems, this is a welcome move to reward those in a profession whose rulings, succinctly speaking, has an impact over the functioning of a country in entirety. But it is worth knowing as to how the recent increments in salaries of Judges came about? It is believed that in lines with the recommendations of the 7th pay Commission for officers of all-India services brought about the salary hike. It is also widely known now that back on January 4, 2018, the Lok Sabha had passed a bill to hike the salaries of judges of the Supreme Court as well as those practicing in the High Courts of India.
