Nitin Gadkari’s Message To MPs: Development, Environment Have To Go Side By Side

Shri Nitin Gadkari is one of the most sought after and widely-respected ministers in the entirety of the political landscape of the country. While what makes him relevant, beyond a scope of doubt, is also down to the fact that he currently happens to be in power, being an integral part of the most popular and the largest political party anywhere on the face of the earth- the BJP, but there is more.

Inarguably speaking his popularity and importance also stems from the fact that he is widely considered to be a minister who likes to work and not someone who rests with or resorts to mere ‘talk’ or ‘hearsay!’

He is also understood to be a minister who likes to keep himself busy working, always up to something constructive, taking constant strides at reducing the gap and expectations between what could’ve been and what is.

And perhaps, if there is something that explains his dedication to work and his willingness to achieve progress are his recent views, where he shed light on the fact that environment and development should happen side by side and not in isolation.

So that said, there arises a question. What exactly did Mr. Gadkari say to in his recent address to the BJP MPs?

“Everyone says ‘stop the work’. No one says ‘do the work’. The country has to have a positive approach and attitude towards development projects,” he said during the Question Hour, NDTV reported.

Apart from that, he also expressed some regret in the sense that the country needs to adopt a far more positive and proactive approach to development than what is being currently felt and seen. Mr Nitin Gadkari was of the view that various road projects in the country are currently stuck in front of several existential problems.

He was of the view that owing to difficulties pertaining to land acquisition and clearances specifically in the realm of environment, several road projects do not actually find the light of the day.

So, in that respect, it is fair to state that according to Shri Nitin Gadkari, if one desires to see a rampant speed in road clearance projects, then hurdles like the land acquisition and environmental clearances have to be sorted at the earliest.

These, after all, at the end of the day, are hurdles and can be solved!

In addition to the above, Shri Nitin Gadkari also happened to add- “I am pro-environment. But the environment and development have to go side by side.”

NDTV happened to share some other crucial insights pertaining to key infrastructural developments that are taking place in the ambit of his department and, therefore, involving him closely-

Mr. Nitin Gadkari shared the government of India had approved Bharatmala Pariyojana Phase-I in October 2017 with an aggregate length of about 34,800 km (including 10,000 km residual NHDP stretches) at an estimated outlay of Rs 5,35,000 crore for development of various road projects.

The projects include about 9,000 km of economic corridors, about 6,000 km of inter-corridor and feeder roads, about 5,000 km of national corridors efficiency improvements, about 2,000 km of border and international connectivity roads, about 2,000 km of coastal and port connectivity roads, and about 800 km of expressways.
