India’s Falling Human Rights Record Questioned By Mesut Ozil!

In the world of football, he is a superlative name and needless to say, a world renowned one. Mesut Ozil, formerly, a key member of the German National Football team, is now a globetrotting talent whose name is recited and looked up to everywhere, regardless of whether one speaks about The Netherlands, France, Dubai, South Korea, Turkey, or Germany, the country for which he plied his trade for many a long year.

However, in his current capacity, Mesut Ozil has become one of the foremost names in the world of football in Turkey. And truth be known, this is no random development; it’s something that has a very relevant reason.

Right now, Mesut Ozil is the captain of a famous Turkish Super Lig club by the name of Fenerbahce.

But here’s a point of context about Ozil. He’s among the noted celebs who seldom shy away from sharing an observation or two about world affairs. One of the rare ones who does not really shy away from calling a spade, a spade.

It is one of those characteristics that perhaps in some sense puts Mesut Ozil in a league with other noted figures from the widely loved sport. Think David Beckham. Think Christiano Ronaldo; distinguished personalities who will speak up for a cause and voice their opinion.

All of that said, here’s what is most interesting about Mesut Ozil and a latest development.

It appears that the 33-year-old Germany-born footballer has cast his eye above all things, on the current human rights situation in India. And boy, it’s not something that has impressed the talent currently busy playing the sport in Turkey.

So what really happened and what particular observations did Ozil reserve for India.

Here are some key excerpts from a report published recently on the trending topic on the Indian Express:

“Praying during the holy night of Lailat al-Qadr for the safety and well-being of our Muslim brothers and sisters in India. Let’s spread awareness to this shameful situation! What is happening to the human rights in the so-called largest democracy in the world?#BreakTheSilence.”

The above was actually an original tweet that was posted by Mesut Ozil himself on Twitter a few hours ago. Moreover, this is no random development; just earlier this year, Ozil took to Twitter and raised a voice of concern for the routing that is currently taking place in Ukraine, much of which has been horribly devastated by Russia.

He would say the following:

“Let’s keep praying for peace in the world – not just in Ukraine, but also in Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Iraq and all other places in the world where people are suffering from war #StopWAR #JummaMubarak #M1Ö.”

This earlier tweet, however, would garner a lot of traction and praise from different parts of the globe in that many were touched by the sense of concern that the noted footballer demonstrated.

The point of the matter being that there are always celebs who, despite knowing that their voice carries a certain power and has the capability to affect a change (positive), often remain silent doing nothing else than joining the mum chorus of those (other) voices that do not say anything in the light of a human tragedy or during someone’s plight.

But at RapidLeaks, we would be keen to know your take on what Mesut Ozil had to say about the human rights situation in India. Do you agree with him? Let us know in the comment section below!
