The most important development for Brazil, it could be said, in these Coronavirus-riddled times came earlier this year during the month of March. So what was it? Well, Brazil received no fewer than 1,022,400 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine through a program that was a joint effort on the part of Coalition For Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), the Global Alliance for Vaccinations and Immuniszation (GAVI), the United Nation’s Children’s Fund (UNCF), the World Health Organisation (WHO), and the Pan American Health Organisation.
There were hardly any surprises as to why the above was being celebrated as a ‘big step toward saving lives!’
But that drastic step to alleviate the COVID 19 cases perhaps now seem like a far cry from the existing troubles that the country faces surrounding the COVID cases in Brazil.
So the question is- why is that, what really happened?
Well, given the alarming number of COVID cases in Brazil, a situation that desperately needs some attention, there have already been 4,000 daily deaths.
There are ghastly numbers. There are troubling statistics. And then there’s that which constitutes a deathly blow! Perhaps the latter suffices to explain the mounting trouble concerning the COVID cases in Brazil.
But make no mistake the toll of 4,000 deaths in a single day has happened for the first time for Brazil.
This last Tuesday, the country evidenced 4,211 confirmed deaths- a terrible statistic, truth be told!
All of this is happening at a time where the country seriously grappling with the pandemic is fast running out of ideas to protect its people!
Wondering why is that?
The confirmed COVID cases in Brazil measure over the 13.1 million figure! This data was furnished thanks to efforts of the local press and the health department of the country.
You can call the current existential crisis as one that’s only worsening. You can call it simply terrible, but all of this is futile exercise as finding the right adjective is just not going to help.
Meanwhile, here is what the Andalou Agency happened to report on the critical situation in the Senna and Pele-land:
The grim milestone points to an uncontrolled advance of the virus in Brazil, which accounts for one-quarter of the world’s daily COVID-19- deaths, although it only accounts for 2.7% of the global population. In Sao Paulo state, 555 people have died from a lack of ICU beds. The seven-day moving average of deaths in the country reached 2,775 on Tuesday, completing 21 days above the level of 2,000 daily deaths and 76 days above 1,000.
The 4,000-mark for fatalities was surpassed just 14 days after the country recorded more than 3,000 deaths in a single day and 27 days after it registered 2,000 fatalities.
Only the US, with a population 56% larger than Brazil’s, has exceeded this daily record. On its worst day yet, on Jan. 12 this year, the US recorded 4,476 COVID-19 deaths. Even so, the situation in the country seems to be more under control, with numbers on a downward curve. This can be explained in part by the US’s rate of vaccination.
Never before has the need to pray strongly and with all of one’s heart seemed true as what one finds this very moment in one of the most beautiful and culturally attractive spaces on god’s beautiful earth.
