There’s this popular travel quote by Susan Sontag: “I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list”
But, trust me, darling, there are some places out there that you don’t want to incorporate in your list. We didn’t say it, it is as per an international survey which was conducted on the grounds of which countries should a traveller avoid in 2017. While one of the main reasons behind the answer was of terrorism, diseases like Zika virus also played an important role.
72% people believe that travel risks would be higher in the year 2017, and 52% felt that 2018 would be even more dangerous than that. Which makes us think, would travelling and Global travel, fall for the atrocities this world is going through.
Travel and tourism industry are known to be one of the largest industries, that contributed 7.6 trillion US Dollars in global economic contribution, in the year 2014. Each and every country’s tourism sector is steadily increasing, out of these certain countries.
This map has been made out by International SOS and Control Risks, in collaboration with Ipsos Mori Survey. The outcomes have been derived on the basis of traveller’s experience on varied cases. While terrorism contributes to 51% of the risks in this survey, there are things like road safety, crimes and rape culture which also contribute in a major way towards the problems.
These risks have been divided into Insignificant, Low, Medium, High and Extreme. However, there are countries that have certain regions with Medium risks, as compared to Extreme risks in other regions in the country. The countries have been divided into ‘Rapidly Developing Variable Risk’, ‘Very High’, ‘High’, ‘Medium’ and ‘Low’.
1. Political Violence – insurgency, terrorism, politically motivated unrest and war.
2. Social Unrest – communal violence, ethnic violence and sectarian violence.
3. Other factors – good transportation infrastructure, the effectiveness of security and good emergency services.
4. Health Risks: environmental factors, infectious diseases and availability of local emergency services.
This survey and this map should be treated as an ultimate handbook for every passionate traveller out there. See the world if you want to, but just check if there are no extreme risks associated with that part of the world.
