Nyhavn is perhaps the most beautiful and cozy part of Copenhagen. With its colorful, beautiful buildings and 18th-century harbor, it is a treat for eyes and a nice place to relax. There are many good restaurants, cafes and small boutiques to spend your time. You can also be entertained by the various street artists who are around the harbor. Nyhavn is particularly beautiful when the sun is shining because all the colors of the buildings and boats light up and collectively appear fantastic making it one of the best things to do in Copenhagen.

Frederiksberg Castle

Visitcopenhagen

After strolling through Copenhagen’s streets, it is a blessing to stroll through the parks and green spaces around Frederiksberg Palace. It is like a calm oasis, which is visited especially in spring and summer by locals and tourists who sunbathe, picnics, walk or just relax. The castle was built in the Italian Baroque style and between 1699 and 1703 and it can also be visited.

The Blue Planet

Amalienborg

Visitcopenhagen

Amalienborg is Denmark’s royal castle and this is where the Danish royal family lives. Just like Buckingham Palace in London, you can come here every day at lunchtime to see a traditional changing of the guard. Much of the ceremony is similar to that in London, but there are some differences, not least the environment is completely different and the guards wear traditional bearskin hats. The entire changing of the guard takes about 30 minutes. But even if there is no changing of the guard, a visit is worthwhile.

The Glyptothek

The Glyptothek is an art museum in Copenhagen with paintings and sculptures from many countries. The museum was founded at the end of the 19th century by Carl Jacobsen, who managed to build one of the largest art collections in the world. Many of the artworks are antique and come from Egypt, Greece, the Middle East and Italy. The museum is divided according to the various art forms that exist worldwide. The museum also has various exhibitions with photographs and much more. Something very special about the Glyptothek is the large winter garden, that is best to be visited in the cold Danish winter days which is one of the best things to do in Copenhagen. But it is also worth a visit otherwise, because there is also a cozy cafe.

Tarnet (The Tower)

Liv my way

Tarnet or the tower in Christiansborg Palace was only opened to the public in 2014. The tower climb is free and you have a good view of Copenhagen from up there. The tower is the tallest in the city and if you look over the rooftops you are likely to see streets, buildings and other details in the cityscape that you did not notice before. Since its opening people have been flocking from all over the world to witness this tower, which is one of the best things to do in Copenhagen.

The Tower of The Redeemer Church

The tower of the Redeemer Church also offers you a really great view of the central parts of Copenhagen. The church tower is in another part of the city. The path up to the top of the church tower is via a spiral staircase and, just like from the tower at Christiansborg Palace, you can discover new and interesting parts of the cityscape that you would not have seen from below. Being in the church itself is so peaceful that it is one of the best things to do in Copenhagen.

Tycho Brahe Planetarium

Visitcopenhagen

Planetarium films are exceptional and in the Tycho Brahe planetarium you can sit back and watch amazing films on a 1000 square meter dome surface. Most of the films that are played in the dome are related to history or nature. For example, films about the invasion of Normandy (D-Day), about polar bears on the Arctic and the giants of the ice age. If you are interested in watching movies at a Grand scale, it is one of the best things to do in Copenhagen.

Roskilde

Dispatcheseurope

The city of Roskilde is about 20 minutes away by train from Copenhagen. In addition to the large area where the classic Roskilde Festival is held annually, there are several sights and attractions here. Among other things, you will find the Viking Ship Museum, which is one of the most important of its kind in Scandinavia. All in all, the remains of five different original ships can be seen here, but other items from the Viking Age are also shown. Roskilde is also known for the city cathedral, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the best things to do in Copenhagen.
