Everybody loves some adventure sports, don’t they? Even if you are a person who is very reticent and doesn’t like mingling with a lot of people, you would still love to do something exciting at least once in your life. After all, we want to have a tell-tale of our own which could be recited to people for years to come.
Adventure sports have been a rage in the recent times, while some showcase an eye-opening scene in your favourite film, others just look so much fun that you just want to try it.
It’s weird that a man has reached the mars and back, yet doesn’t know what lies beneath our water bodies. A great mystery surrounded by magnificent creatures and ever so beautiful plants and their species. The sea has a different kind of calmness associated with it that makes you realise how important it is to just wait there are appreciate the beauty around us (actually beneath us).
Do you remember that extremely sensitive scene from “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD)”, where Hrithik Roshan, after his first scuba diving session gets really emotional as he finds his peace. That’s what a session like this can do to you, it can completely change your life and make you see the world around you a whole lot differently.
The best place in India to go for scuba diving is in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The water around the islands in very clear and encompasses a wide species of underwater animals.
Cost: Rs. 5,000-10,000
As we are travelling somewhere around extremism right now with the whole diving and all, I would like to mention that Skydiving has always been my favourite adventure sport that I would love to try one day. We all want to fly and skydiving gives us the pleasure to do that. It’s like we are very close to death and anything can happen while you are taking the biggest leap of faith in your life, but after the initial 15 sec, the thrill of being in the air starts to kick in. You just want to enjoy those minutes up in the sky to such an extent that the fear of dying is no longer there. That’s the power of an adventure sport.
Enjoy your first jump in India itself and that too in the beautiful city of Mysore. There are various skydiving camps that are organised in the city, which you can be a part of.
Cost: Static Jump – Rs. 17,000 and Tandem Jump – Rs. 25,000 – Rs. 32,000.
Paragliding is also some sort of flying in a way, in which you don’t have to from a plane but rather jump from a cliff (which is not very scary, if you compare both of them). Paragliding is a very popular sport in the country and you can often find it happening in hill stations of India, like – Nainital, Mussorie and Manali or even on the scenic beaches of the country.
Paragliding is a much safer option for those who can’t make their mind about whether or not they should be going for a Skydiving session. It gives you an instructor which is always a good option for first-timers.
The first ever world cup for paragliding was hosted in Bir Billing, a small village in Himachal Pradesh and has a total of 11 spots from where one can paraglide.
Cost: Rs. 2,500 onwards
Trekking is considered a very soft adventure sport but a must for everyone to try at least once in their life. Plus, India has had a very deep relation with entire trekking culture as one of the most religious temples in the country are set on very high altitudes like – Amarnath, Badrinath, Kedarnath etc.
The trekking scene is very strong among the youth of the country these days, with the huge crowd in places like Spiti, Tosh, Malana and Parvati Valley.
Cost: Trekking in India differs in costing from place to place and groups to groups. It can cost anywhere from Rs.5,000 to Rs.30,000.
Zip lining is also a very popular adventure sport in the country with a large number of people trying it every now and then. They can be found in almost every state and each and every place offers a different thrill and experience.
You can enjoy zip lining in places like Neemrana, Mehrangarh fort in Jodhpur or Shivpuri in Rishikesh,
Cost: Zip Lining is not a very costly adventure sport and costs anywhere between Rs. 1,500 to 4,000.
Water rafting is also a mainstream sport that people from any age group can try and have tried. We all know someone who has done water rafting in the clear and accelerating waters of Rishikesh. It is a thrilling experience that offers memories for a lifetime and will drag you back in the water for another round of rafting your friends and family.
Cost: Rs. 800- Rs. 2000.
So, start ticking off these adventure sports from your bucket list while travelling in India. At least that’s what I’m going to do.
