Rameshwaram, the land of clean sea breezes and numerous temples & sacred ponds. The place has the air of divinity in its atmosphere. The less crowded “Island City”, stands firm in the middle of India and Sri Lanka and has been an attraction of various travelers.

One of the Char Dhams of India, it is mostly visited by the religious devotees from all around the globe. This holy pilgrimage site has The Ramanathaswamy Temple located at the center of the town. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and is closely associated with Lord Rama.

Rameshwaram is the closest place to Sri Lanka where the significance of Rama Sethu can be found. According to the mythology, this island holds high significance in Ramayana.

1. Kothandaramaswamy Temple

Lined along the shallow beaches and historical ruminants, Kothandaramaswamy is situated in Dhanushkodi. This place is said to be the ruin of the temple mentioned in Ramayana. It is said to be the residence of Vibhishana and has idols of Lord Rama, Laxmana, Sita, & Hanuman. This place makes an interesting tourist spot owing to its connection with Hindu mythology.

2. The Five Faced Hanuman Temple

Famous for the five manifestations of Lord Hanuman, this temple is situated just 2 km from Rameshwaram Temple. Carved out of a large Senthooram Stone the famous idol of Hanuman is a breathtaking sight. The stone was reckoned very precious in ancient times as the mythology suggests that it was also used to build the Rama Setu.

3. Ariyaman Beach

Spread vast in an astounding width of about 150 m and length of 2 km, the beach can be arguably denoted as the synonym to peace. The gentle waves and clean shore give you the much needed tranquil. It is also suggested at the perfect spot to plan a picnic. Either you are with family, spouse, and friend or are alone, this place is a must visit.

4. Dhanuskodi Beach

The beauty of the magnificent merger of two oceans makes Dhanuskodi beach the prominent place to visit. Having Bay of Bengal on one side and the Indian Ocean on other, you can actually experience the difference between the tides of two oceans. Before the storm of 1964, it was heavily populated but now it has a population of only 500 fishermen and their families. Declared as a ‘Ghost Town’ by the government, this place is isolated and peaceful.

5. Adam’s Bridge

This place is the literal proof of Ramayana. Adam’s Bridge or Rama Setu screams the practical connection of reality and stories of Ramayana, where this bridge is said to connect Rameshwaram island to the north-western coast of Sri Lanka. It has always been the topic of debate among historians, archeologists, and religious gurus. This place should be on your must-visit list.

6. Agni Theertham

There are 64 sacred baths in India and Agnee Teertham have always topped the list. It is said that bathing here can redeem your exploited soul, free you from sins and make you pure. Holistic rituals of death and birth are performed here. This place allows pilgrims to feel connected to the higher power.
