It could be called an act of necessity, something so vitally needed. Some might regard it as more of an impulsive habit. But to most others, it’s something that makes life a bit gratifying and something we so often love to do. Shopping will never go out of fashion or stop being a rage. Don’t you think? And with the evolution of the Internet with more and more online mediums coming about, it appears that there’s a sense of fun and zing to something that can also be a bit mundane!
But truth be told, who would’ve thought that shopping from social media networks would become such an intrepid and irreversible part of our lives!
Well call it evolution or what you may, but it appears that the next big destination to shop from, at least, here in the heart of the sub-continent is none other than Facebook Marketplace!
Yes, you read this right. So this brings us to the key question- just how many shop from Facebook Marketplace on an average per month? Put a figure in your mind and trust us, you won’t be able to get it right.
Anyways, facts first! The now-famous utility of Facebook marketplace was launched last year, as of 2020 and was called the famous social network’s big e-commerce play, set to generate rollicking feedback. Guess, it’s already accomplished that bit!
But how? Well, believe it or not, but no fewer than 25 crore individuals shop from Facebook Marketplace every month. And they do so from as many as 10 lakh stores.
If that’s not the revolutionary impact of Facebook and how it has ceaselessly combined social media interaction with online shopping- then one wonders what is?
Crossing 10 crore online users for any social media platform is considered great news, right? Here’s Facebook Marketplace that has already crossed a user base of 100 crore who use its e-commerce platform. Indeed a mighty achievement!
A report published on News 18 had to say the following in lines with such an important trending story:
Launched by the social media company last year, as the Covid-19 pandemic broke across the world, Facebook Marketplace is the company’s expansion into the e-commerce space that aims to bring together the social media platform’s push to provide a path for single users, small and indigenous businesses to use the service to sell their products, and also for established businesses to digitise their offerings and reach out to more buyers.

Speaking to investors and other attendees of the earnings call, Zuckerberg said, “We’re investing in building the future of commerce We have a long way to go to build out a full-featured commerce platform across our services. This modern commerce system is going to bring together a number of areas where we either already have strong offerings like in ads, community tools and messaging with areas like shops and business messaging and payments.”
But all of the above said, here’s what’s going to be most interesting as one reckons. Now that Facebook has already generated a user base of 25 crores who unfailingly use its Marketplace to shop from myriad sources, will the famous social network be able to sustain such a mammoth user base in the course of the future? That the service was launched when the users were pushed back at their homes owing to the pandemic is a given. But what about when the shoppers would be out, free from the pandemic?
