As a child completely smitten in her television “idiot-box” there’s just one thing that can distract your attention which is hated by many. These weird kind of strip serial numbers that more often than not appear on our screen and we just can’t seem to find a way to make them disappear.

However, have you ever wondered what these numbers are and why do they actually appear in the first place?
These numbers have one very important use and that is to avoid and detect piracy. These numbers are unique for every region and are generated with the help of a special algorithm by the channels.

This unique code is then inserted into the video streaming which can’t be taken down by video processing algorithm. And, because they can’t be taken down, they would constantly be on the video even when it is shot by a camera or through a screen recording device, while someone is pirating it.

Through this, the companies can track down the place of recording and the suspect behind it.

So, ya, these are not just some random numbers that the channels put out in fun, they do serve a purpose. All you people who indulge in something like this. You’re already warned.
