With this year approaching its end, we have heard only two things by far that made people stand in long queues for hours. First, the launch of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio and another Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s Note Ban on old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. While the results of demonetization are yet to be seen, Reliance Jio has emerged as the largest broadband operator in the country and continues to make records one after another.
In less than three months, Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Jio crossed the 50 million subscriber mark. After its full-fledged 4G services launch on 5 September 2016, Jio has set another new record. According to the sources, it has acquired 1,000 customers per minute that is 6 lakh customers per day. It continues to be the fastest growing company in the world and why not , it has actually acquired 50 million customers in just 83 days and that’s a record.
Where Reliance Jio took only 83 days, the other competitors took years to reach 50 million subscribers mark. Airtel reached the milestone in 12 years whereas Vodafone and Idea both took 13 years.
Jio notched up 16 million users in the first month of its operation and the subscriber base of Jio has already reached one-fifth that of Bharti Airtel.
According to the Cellular Association COAI, the latest data reveals that Bharti Airtel had 262.67 million subscribers in October, Vodafone had 201.90 million subscribers and Idea Cellular had 180.25 million subscribers.
The company has signed up an average of 6 Lakh subscribers a day which is a unique record globally beating the likes of highly popular social media apps such as Facebook, Skype and Whatsapp.
Telecom major Airtel had acquired 41 million 3G and 4G customers combined in last six years and Jio has become the largest digital services operator surpassing the bar of Airtel with the highest number of mobile broadband users. While in only 4G to 4G comparison, Jio has a five times bigger customer base than Airtel.
Reliance Jio sparked the war in between the telecommunication giants even before it’s launched as it onboarded 1.5 million subscribers during the testing phase of 4G network.
It is confirmed from the beginning that Mukesh Ambani wants Jio to be on the top and for that, he is offering users data services free until December 31, 2016.
However, the data services will become chargeable from January but the cellular network promises to keep the voice and roaming services free for lifetime.
