Vivo Z1i, which surfaced online last week, has now been launched by the Chinese smartphone market and while it is a trimmed down version of the Vivo Z1, it comes with some of the most in-demand features such as 19:9 display, dual rear cameras, artificial intelligence integration and the tried and tested Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 636 SoC.
For the unknown, the Vivo Z1 was launched with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, a 6.26-inch FHD+ display having 19:9 aspect ratio, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of inbuilt storage which could be expanded via microSD card. The Vivo Z1 also features with a dual rear camera setup including 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors, while at the front, there was a 12-megapixel selfie camera backed by AI beauty mode. While the whole package was backed by a 3,260mAh battery and comes with a fingerprint sensor mounted on the rear panel, it ran on Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box based on FunTouch OS.
On the other hand, the Vivo Z1i is more a selfie-centric smartphone which comes with a 16-megapixel lens at the front but the smartphone is powered by a less powerful, although efficient, Snapdragon 636 SoC.
The Vivo Z1i sports a 6.26-inch Full HD+ IPS display with 2280 x 1080 pixels resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio, 2.5D curved glass, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 636 processor based on 14nm process clocked at 1.8GHz and paired with Adreno 509 GPU for graphics. It includes 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 256GB with a microSD card. While the Vivo Z1i supports Hybrid Dual SIM connectivity (nano + nano / microSD), there is also a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for biometrics.
For optics, there is a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, LED flash and a secondary 2-megapixel camera for achieving bokeh effects and depth of field view in portrait shots. At the front, there is a 16-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture, AI-backed beautification features, and AR strikers. The Vivo Z1i measures 154.81 x 75.03 x 7.89mm and weighs 149.3 grams. While the smartphone is backed by a 3260mAh battery with no support for fast charging and runs Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 (Oreo), connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz), micro USB support and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
