Samsung Galaxy J7+ Review: Is This The Best Mid-Ranger Ever?

Samsung Galaxy J7+ has been launched by the Korean smartphone manufacturer and after all those leaks and rumors, one thing that we can guarantee you is, it has managed to stay true to its hype. Samsung Galaxy J7+ is priced at THB 12,900 (Rs. 25,000 approx.) and comes in a single storage variant, however, the main highlight of this device is the dual-camera setup at the rear and an AMOLED display, making it the perfect Samsung offering for multimedia consumption.

An upgrade to the Galaxy J7 (2017), Samsung Galaxy J7+ is the second Samsung smartphone to come with dual cameras at the back, and the first one as a mid-ranger. Other than that, it comes with inbuilt Bixby support and since the Korean manufacturer has launched the Note 8, it is focusing on the major revenue generating segment, i.e the mid budget segment, in order to further strengthen its position in developing markets.

However, with the likes of Honor 8 Pro, OnePlus 5 and Moto Z2 Play present to compete, it is not going to an easy nut to crack for the Samsung Galaxy J7+ but over the years, Samsung has been trying really hard to produce a best seller in this segment and is Samsung Galaxy J7+ the one? Let’s see.

What we like the most about Samsung Galaxy J7+

  • The aluminum body looks premium as well as solid and can endure a couple of drops.
  • The AMOLED display offers good viewing angles and visibility under direct sunlight is surprisingly great.
  • Multi-window support, dual app feature, always-on display and a secure folder, among others, increase the practicality of this device.
  • Samsung’s Experience UI is one of the best user interfaces that comes with justified bloatware and almost stock Android experience.
  • MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core SoC, despite not being an SD Chipset, still caters to the needs of multitasking and heavy gaming. Mali T880 GPU and 4GB of RAM will ensure that users won’t struggle with lags or frame drops.
  • Cameras have been a USP of Samsung device and Galaxy J7+ is no exception. Bokeh effects, color production, shutter speed, noise elimination, image quality both indoors and outdoors, everything works like a breeze in the dual rear camera setup.
  • The front 16MP camera comes with a wide-angle lens and several beautification modes coupled with a front LED flash, making it the perfect selfie smartphone.

What we didn’t like about Samsung Galaxy J7+

  • Internal storage should have been 64GB.
  • The 3000mAh battery couldn’t handle a full day of heavy usage.
  • No word on Android Oreo Update.
  • There is no Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and pictures tend to be shaky.
  • The screen protection has not been disclosed.

Verdict

There is nothing like a perfect smartphone in this market and Samsung Galaxy J7+ is no exception. However, this device turns out to be one of the best offerings near the Rs 25,000 bracket. While the cameras can’t be compared to those found on the OnePlus 5 and Honor 8 Pro, Samsung Galaxy J7+ still offers a great camera experience which is justifiable to its price.

As far as performance is concerned, there is no denying the capabilities of Helio P20 Chipset but a lower battery backup and just 32GB of internal storage might end up holding the Samsung Galaxy J7+.

There has been no word about its availability in India, but if the Samsung Galaxy J7+ does make a touchdown on Indian shores, do you think it can finally be a success story for Samsung in the mid-budget segment?
