Nokia is planning a comeback in the smartphone industry with its D1C Android phone, yes you heard it right!! The company that went under the ground after refusing to manufacture Android Phones when the demand for this new operating system was on the rise. The tendency to do go against the trend and producing some of the standout devices in the past, later on, proved to be its biggest nemesis, resulting in Microsoft buying the company.
However, the company sold its brand name to HMD Global and now we know why – A comeback! Rumors about the company launching of a new smartphone started doing the rounds earlier this year and some of the industry analysts suggested that Nokia may try to compete with Apple iOS as the latter has been a huge success all over the world despite Android being the most used OS.
However, rather than coming out with a new Operating System, Nokia has resorted to playing its cards with a tried and tested Android OS which came as surprise to many, a good one, though. Android OS was the reason of Nokia’s fall from being the biggest mobile manufacture to the underdog of the industry.
But the Legendary company is back and we expect it to be a bang!!
Nokia is planning to launch not one, not two but three Android phones in 2017 and going by the latest rumors, D1C will be the most affordable one out of the three with prices starting from as low as Rs 10,000. The other two being Nokia 5320 and Nokia 1490. It’s so good to see the legendary model numbers back, Ala Nokia 3310.
These devices will be manufactured by Foxconn and Nokia 5320 is rumored to lead the campaign with a high-end Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor while the D1C Android smartphone will feature a more basic octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz with Adreno 505 GPU.
D1C is rumored to feature a 5.5 HD Display with a 13 MP rear and an 8MP Front camera. The smartphone will be made available in two variants i.e. 2GB RAM model with 16GB of internal memory (Rs 10,000) and a 3GB RAM model with 32GB of storage (Rs 13,000), an expandable memory still being an uncertainty. The smartphone may come with Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box. A fingerprint scanner is also on the cards, considering the popularity of the feature among the budgeted smartphone users.
Although the specifications look rather okayish but die hard Nokia fans will definitely prove pivotal in bringing back the company to the competition.
Coming to the competition front, once launched, Nokia D1C will face the wrath of Redmi 3s, Redmi Note 3, Lenovo K6 and many other. The budgeted smartphones category has evolved since Redmi launched itself in 2014 and its smartphones have made it to the numero uno spot on various lists.
If Nokia touches the right nerve of the market then it might be able to compete in a fierce battle with the likes of Redmi, Lenovo, Vivo and other Chinese smartphone manufacturers.
So what do you think about Nokia’s planned comeback? Will the company be able to regain its share in mobile phone business or the likes of Redmi and Lenovo will make Nokia taste the dust?
