Moreover, with smartphone getting bigger and better in respect of the display, the market of tablets has also seen a drastic decline.

But what if you are an iPhone user or your smartphone doesn’t support external storage?

Finding enough space on your smartphone feels like a never-ending battle. At one moment, things are going great, but then all of a sudden there’s some high definition new game you want to install that takes up 1.5GBs of space, but your beloved handset only has 500MB to offer.

This is where you need storage optimisation tips that can be the perfect answer to, How To Optimise Smartphone Storage?

On that note, here some easy-to-follow tips that can help you free up some space on your phone for everything new you want to experience.

How To Optimise Smartphone Storage? Just Follow These 10 Easy Tips And Ideas

1. Wi-Fi External Storage Device

For those who love to carry lots of movies, ebooks, songs or any other file for multimedia consumption, a Wi-Fi card reader or storage drive is just priceless. There are several available options ranging from Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000 price range from SanDisk and Kingston, and with these, you can access your external hard drive or microSD cards without the need to internet connectivity.

2. Back Up and Delete Old Photographs

With smartphone cameras getting better with every passing day, those high-resolution photos can really suck of the device’s storage. Camera photos accumulate over time and it’s always good to backup old photos on Google Drive or Dropbox before deleting them from the device.

3. Delete Old Messages

Just like emails, messages also accumulate over time and while they do not consume GBs of storage that useless stack of messages can easily make way for a new app. Moreover, not every old message is that important to keep with you forever.

4. Uninstall Unnecessary Apps

For anything new, the old has to go. The same goes for applications as they consume a lot of space in any smartphone. For 16GB limited storage-users, it makes no sense in keeping those unnecessary apps which are hardly of any use. And for those who have 32GB+ storage, uninstalling unnecessary apps can also optimise your smartphone’s performance.

5. Delete eBooks And Download Them Again, If Required

While ebooks don’t take that much of real estate of your smartphone, an avid reader likes to treat them as if they were hanging on a physical stand. However, in this case, you don’t have the option to buy another stand and it’s always a good practice to save them on cloud storage or Google Drive and download them when required.

6. Turn Off “Keep Normal Photo”

There is an option to turn off “Keep Normal Photos” in the Settings menu under Photos. This feature helps in avoiding duplicate photographs when HDR is used. Also, deleting photos which are shot in burst mode can help a lot.

7. Clean Your Music Playlist

As heartbreaking as it may sound, your for-any-mood playlist needs some shredding as well. There might be some songs that are unheard for a long time or doesn’t suit the taste anymore. Go ahead and Delete them. If that’s not what you want, take a backup online and then delete them.

8. Clear Offline Data

Deleting cache and offline reading lists will not only give you the flexibility of adding new files, it can also optimize your smartphone’s performance.

9. Delete duplicates

Most smartphones tend to have a large number of duplicate data like songs, videos, pictures and any other files which simply waste the storage capacity. While all new smartphones have an inbuilt software to hunt duplicate files, you can also download an app from the Play Store which just takes up 5MB of storage.

10. Migrate Videos/Movies

Apart from heavy games, videos and movies mostly take up a huge space in the storage department. If a video is not that important and a particular movie is just a one-time watch, go ahead and delete them or you can even migrate important videos to a Wi-Fi external storage or Cloud/Drive.
