Honor 8 Lite Specs And Review: It Is Definitely Worth A Try

Honor 8 Lite has been launched in India by the Chinese Manufacturer Huawei with a price tag of Rs 17,999 and trust me when I say this, this is the perfect torn down version of the ever so fluent Honor 8.

Huawei is going all in with the Honor 8 Lite and that is one of the reasons that the smartphone will be made available through offline stores, giving it an advantage over its competition like Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Lenovo Z2 Plus and Moto G5 Plus. With a 2.5D glass covering both the front and back of Honor 8 Lite, it resembles a lot to its premium sibling when it comes to striking design.

Another USP that Honor 8 Lite carries is the EMUI 5.0, which adapts according to user’s behavior in order to provide an improved interface, enhanced display as well as image rendering capabilities, making it one of the best multimedia smartphones in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment.

However, this is also the most dreading segment from any smartphone manufacturer due to cut throat competition and consumers demanding an all-arounder which is a little inclined towards performance. Honor 8 Lite, on the other hand, is touted to bring a revolution to the mid-budget segment and since it has been launched in India, what’s better than putting it against the test to time. Let’s begin.

Honor 8 Lite Specifications

  • 5.2-inch (1080×1920 pixels) Full HD display with 2.5D glass
  • Kirin 655 octa-core processor coupled with Mali T830-MP2 GPU
  • 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage, expandable upto 128GB
  • Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.0 on top
  • 12MP rear camera with PDAF, f/2.2 aperture and LED Flash
  • 8MP front camera with f/2.0 aperture and 77-degree wide-angle lens for group selfies
  • Fingerprint scanner at the rear and dual SIM support
  • 3000mAh battery with quick charge support
  • Connectivity options in Honor 8 Lite include 4G VoLTE, Micro-USB 2.0 with USB OTG support, Wi-FI 802.11 b/g/n, and Bluetooth v4.1.

What We Like In Honor 8 Lite

  • The 5.2-inch is one of the best units in this segment, offering exceptional outdoor visibility and the Eye Comfort mode further makes it easier on eyes.
  • One thing that we really liked about Honor 8 Lite was the fact that the premium built and design still features in this smartphone despite it being a torn down version. The all-metal body coupled with 2.5D glass looks from an upper segment and except the back being a little too attracted towards smudges, there is nothing wrong with Honor 8 Lite, in this department.
  • Kirin 655 octa-core SoC, Mali T830-MP2 GPU, 4GB RAM and 64Gb of external storage makes Honor 8 Lite a perfect performance oriented smartphone that doesn’t suffer from lags and frame drops while multitasking as well as heavy gaming.
  • This is the first smartphone in India to feature Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.0 and the user interface is actually pleasing with minimal bloatware and it further comes with app boxes for those who like their screens to be clean.
  • The 8MP front camera offers great colors and details in both outdoor as well as indoor conditions.
  • One of the best fingerprint scanners.

What We Miss In Honor 8 Lite

  • While Honor 8 has a well-rounded dual rear camera that impressed ou to the core, the Lite version comes with a 12MP unit which is just enough to stand in the competition not stand out in the crowd.
  • With heavy hardware and performance oriented specs, there should have been a better battery backup in Honor Lite 8. Although, it can still survive a whole day of average usage.

Verdict

With quite a few superior specifications, fluent design and an attractive price of Rs 17,999, Honor 8 Lite is one of the best options in the mid-budget segment of smartphones. It comes with a refreshing design and that might be its biggest advantage over competitors like Moto G5 Plus, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Oppo V5s and Lenovo Z2 Plus, to name a few.
