Apple has finally launched the most awaited smartphones of the year, the Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus at an event in the US and from what we can see after these so-called next gen smartphones were launched, it is less than what we expected.
Interestingly, while most of us thought that iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will be the highlights of this event in California, the iPhone X came out of the blue and this is the smartphone that everybody is talking about right now.
However, despite the iPhone X being a more interesting proposition here, the fact that iPhone 7’s successor is finally born, can not be ignored, as well.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus offer some incremental improvements over iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models but they very much retain the same looks and design, barring a few changes including new colour options – Silver, Space Gray, and Gold Finish, an improved display, glass front and back, and 25 percent louder speakers.
While the iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch screen and its larger variant has a 5.5-inch screen as well as a dual camera lens on the back. True Tone technology, which was earlier offered on the iPad Pro, has become a standard feature of the new line of iPhones and what this basically do is the technology automatically adjust the screen’s output (brightness) based on the ambient light in the room in order to offer more accurate colors.
One of the biggest changes is the glass back, which is introduced in order to enable iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus for inductive wireless charging, which couldn’t have worked with the aluminum shell of the older models. And sadly, just like the iPhone 7, there’s no 3.5mm headphone jack while the Fingerprint sensor is built into the Home button. Other features include Apple Pay Support, IP67 water and dust resistance rating, Body and face detection.
Both iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus support Qi wireless inductive charging, and are powered by A11 Bionic SoC six-core processor as well as an improved GPU, which is about 30 percent more efficient, making these smartphones a dream come true for power users.
As far as the cameras are concerned, while iPhone 8 comes with a 12 MP rear camera offering ƒ/1.8 aperture and Digital zoom up to 5x, the Plus version comes with a dual 12MP rear unit (wide-angle with ƒ/1.8 aperture and telephoto with ƒ/2.8 aperture), Optical zoom, digital zoom up to 10x, Portrait mode and Portrait Lighting (beta). OIS has finally been added to Apple’s iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus and both smartphone scan shoot 1080p videos at 240 frames per second.
At the front, there is a 7MP camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture, Retina Flash, Live Photos, Auto HDR, 1080p HD video recording, Wide color capture for photos and Auto image stabilization.
While the iPhone 8 is priced at $699 and $849 for the 64GB and 256GB variants, iPhone 8 Plus will cost $799 and $949 for 64GB and 256GB variants, respectively. While pre-orders for the two models start on September 15, the first phase of release begins on September 22 and the Indian launch is expected to be on 29th September.
