We cannot possibly imagine our worlds in the absence of computers today. Can we? Computers, for the lack of a better word, are the nutrition of our life and, an antidote to the existence of complications. Wherever one sees, whatever one finds, day after day, one only gets to hear of the new developments and revolutionary changes taking place in the realm of tech.
Our worlds changed when a few decades back in the day, at the behest of Sir Tim Berners Lee, the computer we know it to be discovered the Internet. It was almost like the Yin and Yang coming together to make the sphere of Tech more enterprising, evolving and, fascinating than before.
And, it could be argued, each day ever since, in the space of using computers has been about making use of the world wide web. Our lives are incessantly reliant on it and now, there’s no other way of going about things. Isn’t it? Businesses rely on it, companies dwell on it, social media thrives on it and every single tiny or minute step that one’s been able to take today- is because of the presence of computers.
But here’s something unanticipated and relatively new in the sphere of technology that’s sure to take you by a complete surprise
The world’s smallest computer is here among us and is creating waves. In an age where technology is undergoing myriad new shapes and patterns, meeting cutting-edge innovations- perhaps it’s fitting to find a miniaturised version of arguably the most important device for all of mankind.
It’s honestly surprising to note that the entire size of this tiny computer is all of 0.3 mm. That’s about it. Not an iota more, not an iota less. And it has been developed by the researchers at among the most premier universities and institutes- the University of Michigan. The said device is so small that it beats the size of even a solitary grain of rice. Can you believe that?
And in case you are wondering just what might be the difference between the regular desktop computers and this one, then here’s an idea. Unlike most desktop or regular computers that are able to retrieve, store and, represent all data stored even when the electricity is turned off as also when the devices are shut down, this computer works slightly differently. This microdevice will lose everything including all programming and data, once it has been turned off or switched off.
The above has been confirmed by international news agencies that have been covering the development of the micro-computer closely. And on the news that such a computer actually existed, most remarkably, gaining traction around the world for its nano size, a leading computer engineering expert had the following to say:
“We are not sure if they should be called computers or not. It’s more of a matter of opinion whether they have the minimum functionality required,” said David Blaauw, a professor of electrical and computer engineering, who led the development of the new system.
Presenting a fantastic blend of miniaturization of size and inspiring tech, the computer device, aptly titled, Michigan Micro Mote- has processors as well as wireless transmitters and receivers. And that’s not all. What the Michigan Micro Mote also has is a RAM and photovoltaics. While they are too diminutive in their size to receive space for a conventional radio antennae, they are able to transmit data using the visible light.
All that said, one could be waiting to understand just what exatly purpose does such a tiny creation serve, isn’t it? And once you go through this one- you will be compelled to nod your head in approval behind such a timely innovation, it has to be said.
Designed as a precision temperature sensor, the new device converts temperatures into time intervals, defined with electronic pulses. The intervals are measured on-chip against a steady time interval sent by the base station and then converted into a temperature.
It’s believed that despite their miniature size, such computers can be a splendid innovation and enhancement to up the ante of healthcare facilties and can therefore, provide substantial help toward healthcare too. For instance, owing to their ability to monitor temperature-rising or decreasing- they can help suggest when’s a tumour rising in the body vis-a-vis one’s normal tissue. On the basis of the measurements recorded and generated, one can vary the therapy that is being used to cure someone.
