Salman Khan & AR Rahman gave a warm send-off to the Indian athletes in New Delhi, at an event organised by the Indian Olympic Association on Monday.
Actor Salman Khan and Music composer A. R. Rahman are also the Indian Olympic contingent brand ambassadors. Both of them encouraged the athletes ahead of their journey to Rio.The event was attended by tennis star Sania Mirza, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Vinod Tomar, Dipa Karmakar, table tennis star Manika Batra and several others.
Sania Mirza and young Prarthana Thombare will pair up to compete in women’s doubles. Sania will also pair up with Rohan Bopanna in mixed doubles at Rio Olympics. Sakshi Malik, who had already represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the women’s freestyle 58 kg category, grabbed silver at the Olympics qualifier last month in Mongolia. She defeated the 2012 world champion Lan Zhang of China.
Dipa Karmakar will be representing India in the female gymnast category as the first Indian female gymnast in Rio 2016 Olympics.
A.R. Rahman and Salman Khan greeted the officials of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the Sultan actor also performed at the event. A.R. Rahman motivated the athletes and stated that nothing is impossible for the talented athletes.
