Mumbai City FC and Atletico de Kolkata remained undefeated in the third edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) as their match went on to be an entertaining draw at Mumbai Football Arena on Tuesday.
Mumbai started its game earlier when two of its players Leo Costa and Krisztian Vadocz had two shots at the goal but the ball marginally went past the post in the third minute. Atletico de Kolkata created its own chance in the fifth minute when Sameehg Doutie header on an Iain Hume pass went straight into the hands of Mumbai City FC goalkeeper Roberto Volpato.
Both the teams displayed awesome counterattacking football tactics as neither team was able to keep the ball with them for a long time. Every shot at the goalpost was countered by the goalkeepers till the 27th Minute.
The drought ended in the 27th minute when Matias Defederico received a long pass from Khongjee and converted it into a goal, taking his team to the lead. Javi Lara’s free kick from the right side in the 42nd minute opened up the chances for Atletico de Kolkata but Juan Belencoso’s desperate header was not enough to convert the free kick into a goal.
In the second half, Mumbai City FC went into the defensive position while Atletico de Kolkata tried to score an equaliser. In the 71st minute, Mumbai City FC midfielder Pronay Halder was sent back after getting the second yellow card and Atletico de Kolkata took advantage of the situation as they dominated the game thereafter.
The much-awaited equaliser for Kolkata came in the 82nd minute when Javi Lara cut inside Jackichand Singh and scored the goal.
In the last eight minutes, Atletico de Kolkata tried hard to score another goal but was not able to breach Mumbai City’s defence. Hence the match resulted in a draw. Mumbai is now at the top of the League tally, taking forward its reputation of the best side in the league.
