ISL 2016: Delhi Dynamos vs FC Goa

Delhi Dynamos finally ended their winless streak in ISL 2016 by defeating FC Goa in their own backyard at Fatorda Stadium. FC Goa witnessed their fifth defeat of the current ISL season and the team’s performance went from bad to worse. FC Goa has not recorded a win at home till now and the humiliating loss to Delhi Dynamos made matter worse for the team.

Delhi Dynamos dominated the whole game but there were instances in which FC Goa was seen trying to come back in the game. The ball was travelling from one Delhi player to another in the first five minutes but FC Goa somehow got a chance to take a lead when Jofre Mateu’s breathtaking counter attack on a Rafael Coelho pass went straight at the visitor’s goalposts. The goalkeeper was able to get his fingertips to the strike and Anas Edathodika cleared off the ball from going into the nets.

The whole first half saw the home crowd cheering for the home team but it did not last for a long time as Delhi Dynamos players were not allowing the home team to finish any of their attacking strategies and the visitors were also seen desperate to put an end to their winless streak.

There were many chances at the goal in the first half for both teams but none of them were converted into a goal by any of the team and the game went into halftime with both the teams still avid of a goal.

The first chance at the lead came for FC Goa in the 59th minute during the second half when, Julio Cesar headed a Mandar’s cross from the left towards Rafael but he was not able to divert it towards the goal.

After this, it was all Delhi Dynamos play for the rest of the game and they scored their first goal in the 72nd minute when Doblas collected a corner kick and passed it straight to Marcelinho, who in turn grounded the ball and shot it at the left side of the goal post. The goalkeeper had no chance in blocking the strike and the ball went straight into the nets.

The crowd went into silent mode and Delhi Dynamos did not even give the home crowd a chance to recover as the ball was sent again into the nets of FC Goa in the 76th minute.

Malouda found Marcelinho open on the left side and discharged the ball towards him. Marcelinho further cushioned it towards Gadze and the latter was able to shot the ball past Subhasish and straight into the goalpost.

The crowd was stunned and none of them were able to digest what they saw. Silence prevailed all over the stands as there was no hope left for a comeback from the home team.

The visitors were seen twisting the knife in the wounds of FC Goa players as they were still attacking the home side’s goal post. However, Delhi Dynamos was not able to score another one and FC Goa was saved from further humiliation.

The game ended in favour of Delhi Dynamos a score of 2-0 and claimed a position in the top four of the league tally. On the other hand, FC Goa was not able to register their first home ground win and suffered its fifth defeat of the season.
