Delhi Daredevils displayed a powerful batting performance as they thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets on Thursday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in an Indian Premier League (IPL) clash.
Delhi won the toss and opted to field first, Hyderabad had a brilliant start against disciplined Delhi Daredevils bowling. The opening batsmen David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan smashed 51 runs in the powerplay. Warner smashed 46 runs off 30 balls and Dawan scored 34 runs 37 balls.
Warner was set to make another big score but Delhi bounced back in the game as Jayant Yadav dismissed Warner with a slower delivery in the ninth over of the game.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson came to bat but the duo could only smash 31 runs for Hyderabad as Dhawan was sent back by Amit Mishra.
Yuvraj Singh joined Williamson but Mishra struck again and eliminated Yuvraj Singh at 8. Moises Henriques came and was right away sent back by Shami who actually leaked 22 runs off his first two overs. Hyderabad was at 114/ 4.
Williamson was playing with patience, he was joined by young Deepak Hooda but he too could only make 10 runs off 9 balls as he was foolishly dismissed by Nathan Coulter-Nile. Following Hooda, Williamson was also sent back in the next over of the game by Morris. Williamson made 27 runs off 24 balls for Hyderabad which included three boundaries.
The falling of wickets followed as Morris dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1) and Nathan Coulter-Nile sent back wicketkeeper-batsman Naman Ojha at 7. Barindar Sran and Ashish Nehra could only add seven runs in the last over. Hyderabad made a total of 146 runs with the loss of 8 wickets.
Delhi did not face many difficulties chasing a target of 147 runs. Delhi the team was off to a poor start as the opening batsman Mayank Agarwal was dismissed early in the 4th over of the game by Nehra.
Karun Nair joined Quinton de Kock and the duo put together a 55-run partnership off 37 balls. Their partnership built a strong foundation for Delhi’s victory.
De Kock smashed 44 runs off 31 balls and Nair added 20 runs off 17 balls but pacer Moises Henriques gave Delhi a big shock by removing Nair and de Kock in the 10th over.
Henriques got Nair with a beautiful yorker and he was lucky to get de Kock’s wicket as the umpire decided that he was out but later television replays showed that the bat did not connect with the ball.
Rishab Pant and Sanju Samson came to bat and the innings played by these two let Delhi to a spectacular win. Delhi faced no trouble in winning the game as Pant smashed an unbeaten 39 runs off 26 deliveries including two boundaries and three well-struck sixes. With a spectacular display of Pant and Samson, Delhi won the game having 11 balls spare on their hands.
