Jenson Button Steps Up For Lance Stroll

Anyone wanting to judge Lance Stroll and pass a quick-buck ruling on his current season or whether or not he’s apt to be an F1 driver should simply do himself a favor and visit the 2020 Driver Championships. It would appear, sans any mistakes, that Lance Stroll if fifth on the driver’s standings.

Let’s be honest- did we expect this prior to the start of the 2020 F1 championship?

The noted Canadian driver of Racing Point is currently tied with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (with 40 points against his name), who’s a place ahead, with the Canadian stationed right ahead of Alexander Albon of Red Bull Racing.

Importantly, a little over a fortnight ago where much of the focus for the celebrated 70th Anniversary Grand Prix was on his then-teammate Nico Hulkenberg to finish the race strongly, having begun from a very strong third, it was Lance Stroll who ended sixth, a place ahead of the noted German driver.

In the absence of Sergio Perez, who had to sit out of no fewer than two races this season, owing to testing positive for COVID-19, it was Lance Stroll who led the team brilliantly combining flair and experience.

Where most have said that Lance Stroll is basically in the sport primarily because of his billionaire-father Lawrence Stroll, who also happens to be the owner of the team, that basically spent two seasons in the sport mired in trouble, the young Canadian driver has fully capitalized on a season where he has to his credit a very quick car in RP 20.

What do you think; would you not agree?

Having said that, if for anything, a strong podium finish might only add to Stroll’s growing resume at the top annals of the sport where he has a podium finish and 107 points.

Meanwhile, much of the debate, often bordering on the culture of troll (and evidently so, in social media) restricts itself to how Lance Stroll shouldn’t be this higher up in motorsports and that the only capable thing about him is the powerful backing of his billionaire father.

But that said, there are some, who interpret the situation differently, if one could say so. And none other than Jenson Button, former F1 driver with successful stints with Brawn GP (with whom he’d win the 2009 world title) and McLaren has stepped out to support the 21-year-old.

So the question is- what did Jenson Button- truly among the most respected drivers of his generation- have to say in reference to Stroll?

Apparently, part of noted podcast, here’s what Jenson Button had to offer:

“I really feel for Lance, because it is not an easy position to be in

He knows what people think of him – he’s the gifted driver that his Dad has basically bought a team for him.

In one way you can say he’s so lucky but I don’t think he’s lucky at all.

I feel for the guy, because there’s so much pressure put on him, and everyone thinks he is in Formula 1 because of his father.

But he’s achieved – he won everything on the way through to Formula 1, he’s put in some fantastic results and drives, in Barcelona he finished fourth, he beat Checo, he did a great job, and he has many times.

The consistency isn’t there, whether he’s enjoying it himself or not I don’t know, it’s very difficult to tell with Lance, but he 100 percent deserves to be in Formula 1.”
