It was the first season of T20 World Cup and India was facing New Zealand in the third match of the Group E. The 13th match was to be played in ICC World Twenty20 at Johannesburg on 16 Sep 2007. It was one of the most crucial T20 matches, India played against New Zealand.
India won the toss and elected to field first. India was only 2 matches old in T20 International, which they played against South Africa and Pakistan and won both the matches. India was competing against New Zealand in a T20 international for the first time ever and both the teams were in their prime form. New Zealand showed a sheer class of batting and they smashed 190 runs with the loss of 10 wickets. Captain Brendon McCullum scored 45 runs off 31 balls, he smashed 9 flamboyant boundaries. Craig McMillan showed a strong batting display as he scored 44 runs off 23 balls and smashed one boundary and 4 flying sixes.

Indian bowlers tried to deliver their best as Harbhajan took 2 wickets including Brendon Mccullum and Pg Fulton but they couldn’t stop New Zealand to make a grand total of 190 runs in just 20 overs. After the innings of New Zealand, the hearts of the Indian cricket lovers were racing, all the fans wanted India to play some Big Shots on the ground.
Indian players set foot on the ground to deliver their best. Virender Sehwag Smashed a wonderful innings of 40 runs off 17 balls including 6 boundaries and 2 sixes. Gautam Gambhir scored 51 runs off 33 balls, he smashed 5 boundaries and 2 sixes. Despite Indian players put up a good game, the whole team made a total of 180 runs in 20 overs with the loss of 9 wickets.
New Zealand smashed India and won the match. It was the only match which India lost in the T20 2007 World Cup series.
It was an interesting match, where both the teams had a neck to neck competition but India lost by 10 runs. After this match, there was no stopping for India.
