Virat Kohli To Travel To West Indies; Shall Participate In All Formats

Everyone’s popular choice when it comes to the ‘world’s best batsman’ Virat Kohli shall be traveling to the West Indies in August in order to take part in an all-format bi-lateral series that’s all set to begin from August 3.

In what seems to be an important series, especially for hosts West Indies, Jason Holder’s men shall be playing 3 T20s, as many ODIs and 2 Tests against the touring Indians.

It’s worthwhile to remember that that last India visited the Caribbean was back in 2016-17, a time wherein the likes of Darren Bravo were still Test regulars and where Roston Chase and Shane Dowrich starred in an exciting partnership that saw Holder’s team draw the famous Jamaica Test.

However, Kohli’s men would win the Test series comfortably.

But a few days ago, in lines with India’s poor show in the semi-finals, a contest that saw hundreds of thousands of Indian cricket loyalists let down by Virat Kohli and his team’s exit, there arose a series of questions surrounding Kohli’s participation in the Caribbean series.

But now, it’s been confirmed that the talismanic right-hander, one who missed out on a hundred, although compiled 5 consecutive fifties, shall feature in the West Indies tour. The news comes in after widespread rumor that Virat, along with Jasprit Bumrah would’ve sat out for the tour in lines with a ‘rest.’

It was being believed that since the series follows the World Cup almost immediately, there were slight questions regarding the side’s make-up. Although, a full-member squad is yet to be named.

That said, NDTV shared the following in lines with Team India’s imminent participation in the West Indies:

A few of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials are currently in London and a meeting to decide the squad is most likely to take place on July 19. There have also been reports that some players from the squad that played in England may be rested for the upcoming series in the Caribbean. However, it has now been suggested that a full-strength squad will be picked, with one or two exceptions.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, who shone bright for India through impressive knocks such as his 66 against England, 72 versus the West Indies, and the 82 against Australia, an inning that featured arguably his best stroke in the series- a frontfoot six over cover off Starc- has missed out on the ICC World Cup 2019 XI.
