To a team that really needs to focus in a way that it can build an even stronger foundation for the course of the Indian cricket, in a bid to take it to further heights, there could perhaps be nothing better than having personalities like Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli serving the country together.
It’s hardly a surprise to note why this big association is being talked about so passionately and curiously by not just cricket nerds but the impassioned fans, those for whom Indian cricket is a great leveler in life.
If there’s something the team really needs at this point in time, it could be said, then it’s stability with the need to forge a great new bond that can serve the story of Indian cricket with all its might.
That is where the Virat Kohli, in his captain role and Rahul Dravid, as the head coach of India becomes too vital a pair to be overlooked or undermined. Right?
Now, in that context, the recent Wankhede Test match win against New Zealand was an important occurrence for the two men, both of whom are entrusted with the responsibility of taking the sport India is crazy about to new heights.
It was also, lest we forget, the coming together of two former teammates who now find themselves in a brand new leadership bond. One among them- still very much at the crease and an integral part of the “Fab Five” unit and the other, an all time legend of the game, and one of the last Test match batsman from India in the classical mold.
There’s therefore a lot of value in what Dravid feels about Kohli and importantly, what the captain Kohli, no longer leading the team in T20Is feels about his bond with The Wall!
So the following are some expressions and thoughts of the great legend of batting about his team’s latest feat against New Zealand as also the new head coach of the side:
We all are serving Indian cricket, the previous management did a terrific job, now with Rahul bhai coming in, the mindset is the same. To take Indian cricket forward. It’s important to keep the standards of Indian cricket and make sure it’s always growing.”
Having said that, Virat Kohli also highlighted the importance of the series win, where under his captaincy, Team India registered a memorable Test match victory at the famous Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, beating New Zealand by a mammoth 372 runs.
He’d confess, “To come back with a win again, it’s a great feeling and a clinical performance. You want individuals to step up. The first Test was good, and it was a clinical performance here. We discussed the performance and the opposition played out a good draw. The bowlers tried all their best, but the Kiwi batsmen stuck it out really well in Kanpur. Here there was more bounce, and the fast bowlers got assistance as well, so it gave us a better chance to win the Test match.”
