South Africa vs India 2018 ODI Series: Proteas Announce Squad For The First Three Matches

With India trailing behind by 2-0 against South Africa in the Test series and heading towards an expected whitewash, all hopes lie in the limited overs leg for the visitors, who are looking to prove that they can perform on foreign pitches as well.

Meanwhile, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced their squad for the South Africa vs India 2018 ODI Series which is slated to begin from 1st February. A total of six matches will be played before a 3-match T20I series, and Proteas have just announced the squad for the first three ODIs.

While Faf du Plessis will lead the squad, two uncapped players have also been included in the 14-man squad to play against the visitors. Lungi Ngidi and Khaya Zondo have been called up for the South Africa vs India 2018 ODI series and while Ngidi is giving Indian batsmen a run for their money in the test series, Khaya Zondo’s selection is part of CSA’s plans to give youngsters a chance to express on the international circuit, keeping in mind the team’s World Cup 2019 dreams.

South Africa

Faf du Plessis(c), Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Aiden Markram, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Morne Morkel,  Lungisani Ngidi, Chris Morris, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Khayelihle Zondo and Tabraiz Shamsi.

Coming back to the two uncapped players from South Africa, Ngidi pulled out an exuberating performance on his Test debut against India during the second Test. Coming in as a replacement for an injured Dale Steyn, he took six wickets in the second innings.

As for Khaya Zondo, although Zondo was not the best performer in Momentum One-Day Cup, having scored just 263 runs at 43.83, he has been performing consistently in domestic one-day cricket. He has played 54 List A games since the 2014-15 season and has scored 1886 runs at an average of 47.15, including one hundred and eight fifties.
