Ever wondered what is easier in life? Is it taking care of some responsibility in the middle of a big task or is it offering feedback whilst sitting miles away from it? Perhaps in this day and age where one’s comfortable being an armchair expert on most things under the sun, instead of taking the pain to do something for real, we are all critics and not really doers of things.
A case in point is a clan of sorts of former cricketers who, it can be checked, hang out more on social media for the better part of the day than participating in something important that most others around them are actively pursuing.
Now someone who was anyways fast and intimidating on the field can only be expected to reflect some of that personality when he takes to make his expert opinion off the pitch. In that regard, does Shoaib Akhtar’s name ring a bell or strike something in your mind?
Well, guess what? The man who passionately expresses himself, wearing his attitude and heart on his sleeve, never for a second refraining from calling a spade a spade- remember all the tirades against a Tendulkar and Dravid- has just been given a reality check.
And truth be told, there’s no other way to put it really.
If you are a Shoaib fan or someone who’s aware of his spontaneous or frank views, then it won’t be hard to know cases where one can spot the former Pakistani fast bowler expressing his passion to push talent into the sport, or for that matter, how he rallies behind a good cause.
So what was this very ingenious personality, a very candid one, doing when he went against the call of the time and perhaps took the law and the order of the day in his own hands recently?
Apparently, a few hours back, the social media stratosphere directed its ire at the very man who claims to stand up for the ‘right’, for, after all, the right-arm pacer was found cycling despite this being a state of absolute lockdown in his native Pakistan.
Not the best thing to do under these situations, right Mr. Shoaib? Not exactly when you are yourself voicing your opinions and views on what is right or who’s doing wrong and why?
While at the outset, all Shoaib Akhtar, as reported by the media did, was to cycle harmlessly by himself but was that even required? In fact, when a celebrity is expected to set an example, knowing that hundreds of thousands of the youth from around the world tune into your views – is that really the example to set?
Surely, it wasn’t that surprising to note why Mr. Akhtar was trolled by the very example he puts several examples to.
Here’s what several fans of his had to say:
“Celebrities of the world are giving awareness to common people about COVID 19, and then we came up with our role models who is doing this nonsense in Lockdown situation and making it public,” another angry user commented.
“You are my favourite bowler but it is not good to see you roaming during such conditions,” a fan commented.
“Yes lovely weather but you are a celebrity and our people blindly follow you. Do you want people to come outside without mask and get infected with corona,” wrote another user.
So what does one say now? The hunter becomes the hunted!
