What Does Shahid Afridi Wish To Prove By Appreciating Taliban?

Usually speaking, Shahid Afridi, a cricket legend, not just a hero from Pakistan, makes news on divergent cricketing and non-cricketing subjects. Some of them range from being matters of his age, the takes on a one-time dressing room that had strange and unpatriotic or uncommitted cricketers such as Misbah ul-Haq and Abdul Razzaq, to name a couple. Then he made headlines for fathering just five daughters.

From hitting mega sixes to hitting strokes that built up like controversies fired right into the sky, Shahid Afridi, nicknamed Boom-Boom has done a great deal of things in life, which also includes hitting the tallest-ever six in the history of the game.

But what Afridi did recently, a few hours back, could possibly be his most blasphemous hit as on date.

So how’s that?

The former Pakistani captain, known for his destructive stroke play, came out openly in support of the currently ruling Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

So how was that?

Well, that’s simply because Afridi tends to believe, and yes he actually believes that, Taliban are huge believers in cricket and some of his comments did seem to allude to the fact that they aren’t all that horrible after all.

And it is for this very reason, for finding some positivity in the mindset of people who are, militants at the end of the day, is why Afridi is being trolled and called out over social media.

Perhaps high on some element or substance of abuse that is yet to be explored by the larger mankind, Afridi has shared that this time around, the Taliban we are seeing are a bit ‘positive’ than what one saw of them formerly in the past. Moreover, that they are ‘allowing’ women to work and get involved in politics is something laudable.

Wow, well done Afridi!

Are you nuts? Have you had abandoned street food spiked with a caucasian squirrel’s semen? What are you even saying, rather muttering?

Where are the Taliban allowing women to work? When did such a thing happen? As a matter of fact, they did ban- not restrict- the presence of male professors and teachers where it comes to having classrooms with women in them!

Moreover, that being said, here’s what the Indian Express had to report on the issue:

Afridi made the remarks while he was speaking to the media in Karachi and said that the next Pakistan Super League (PSL) might be his last. He said he would love to play for Quetta Gladiators, GEO News reported.

His shocking remarks quickly went viral, raising eyebrows across the world. His stance is quite different from Afghan cricketers and sportspersons, who have condemned Taliban’s takeover. Many have even left the country, afraid of repercussions. Many also shared older videos of him where he spoke derisively about women playing cricket.

Perhaps it is time that Shahid Afridi, who has entertained people all over the world for his staggering all round record in white ball cricket takes a hard look at himself and reflects on the comments he made about a baseless, heartless organisation sworn to the destruction of a people. What he said could have been avoided. It’s such a shame!
