MS Dhoni: Here Is Why The Former Skipper Used To Give Trophies To Youngsters

MS Dhoni, for all he had achieved as the Indian skipper and for he has contributed to the team, is said to be the greatest ever captain to have ever reigned the cricket field. However, even after winning so many trophies we had rarely seen him holding one after winning a series and we have often thought, why did he always gave those trophies to youngsters.

Every time India won a trophy under MS Dhoni‘s leadership, Mahi handed it over to the youngsters’ while he himself moved at the corner and the victory celebration went on. We always thought that trophies didn’t matter for the former skipper as he was the one focusing on new strategies for the upcoming challenges or he believed in giving those youngsters a chance to feel the importance of winnings.

After almost a decade and winning three ICC trophies namely the World Cup, T20I World Cup and the Champions Trophy, the mystery has finally been decoded and the real truth has come out of none other than MS Dhoni’s mouth.

At the launch event of a book based on Indian cricketer and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s journey written by sports journalist Vimal Kumar, MS Dhoni opened up about why he always gave the memento to younger members of the squad after any series victory.

Here is what he said,

“It’s just that, if there are youngsters in the team who have performed well in the series, you should hand them over the trophy. This works as an appraisal for them. As a captain, you are appreciating what they have done and it gives them a lot of confidence. At the end, we have won the trophy (series). It doesn’t matter who holds it. However, if I hand it over to a youngster and I’m the one getting benefitted from him as he could perform even better in future after this gesture and then it’s a win-win situation for us.”

MS Dhoni has always been known and will be remembered for his smartness as well as calm nature on and off the field. The former skipper’s presence of mind and street smart skills have taken team India to many victories.

That said, motivating the youngsters to perform even better for the team is something only a true leader can execute and this might be one of the prime reasons behind MS Dhoni’s huge success as a captain, be it on the International circuit or Indian Premier League.

Interestingly, although MS Dhoni has stepped down as the skipper and Virat Kohli has been chosen to fill his choose, which he is doing rather marvelously, the current captain also prefers to pass on the trophies to younger members of the team.

As for team India’s recent endeavors, they are witnessing a winning streak and have quickly moved on from their ICC Champions Trophy 2017 failures. First, they had a successful West Indies tour followed by a Test as well as ODI whitewash defeating Sri Lanka on their home turf. Next came the Australians’ tour of India which the home team ended with a 4-1 series win in ODIs and a tie in the T20I leg.

Post-Diwali, India will be taking on New Zealand for a 3-Match ODI and 3-Match T20I series which starts from 22nd October.
