Marlon Samuels’ Brilliant Innings Helped West Indies To Win Over Australia In 5th ODI

A solid opening stand and a Marlon Samuels’ special innings of 92 helped West Indies to chase down 266 easily in 45.4 overs with the loss of six wickets.

West Indies won the toss and asked Australian team to bat first. Australia got off to a poor start as their opening batsman Aaron finch got out in the first over bowled by Jason Holder. Australian captain, Steve Smith came to bat and played sensibly with the in-form batsman Usman Khawaja. They had a brilliant partnership of 170 runs.

West Indies desperately needed to break that partnership, Carlos Brathwaite came to rescue and dismissed Smith(74) on the very first ball of the 35th over.

After captain’s wicket, Australians lost momentum and kept losing wickets at the regular intervals of time. Usman Khwaja (98) was the highest scorer for Australia and George Bailey also played a good hand with run a ball innings of 55 off just 56 balls.

Australian team posted a target of 266 runs with the loss of 7 wickets.

West Indies got off to a flying start with the opening stand of 74 runs in 9.4 overs but on the very next ball, Faulkner dismissed Andre Fletcher(27). Australian leg spinner Zampa, came into the attack and delivered for his team as he sent back Charles(48) to the pavilion.

Marlon Samuels came to the crease and made a brilliant partnership with the left-handed batsman Darren Bravo of 82 runs.

Adam Zampa again came to bowl and dismissed settled batsman Darren Bravo on 39. Incoming batsman Ramdin (28) and Samuels (92) played brilliantly but couldn’t score the winning runs.

Marlon Samuels’ superb innings of 92 off 87 balls led West Indies to a 4-wicket victory  and kept their dreams of qualifying for the final alive.
