Jayant Yadav, An All-Rounder That India Was Searching For A Long Time

Test cricket is the toughest and the longest format of the game and every Cricketer dreams to play in this format, as it tests all your strength and skills.

Jayant Yadav, a complete package of entertainment, got selected for Zimbabwe tour and for the test series against New Zealand in Sep 2016, however, he didn’t get the opportunity to show his calibre and Skills at International Level in both these series.

Yadav finally got the Debutant Cap in ODIs against New Zealand, at Vizag and he started his journey by claiming Corey Anderson’s wicket. Three weeks later this ‘Star in making’ made his Test Debut against England for the 2nd match, at Vizag, of the ongoing India vs England series.

Here is what Jayant Yadav said on his Debut:

“Since the time I remember, since I have started playing serious cricket, not in the streets but in an academy, I have dreamt of this day,” he told Star Sports after stumps. “This dressing room is full of people who make you comfortable. KL Rahul, a recent debutant, told me what to expect on debut. It’s good I didn’t do anything yesterday, gave me time to process the emotions and formulate my plans.”

Yadav, is considered as an off-spinner with good batting abilities and the player straight away made an impact by staging his adroitness in all departments (Batting, Bowling and Fielding).

Batting:

Jayant Yadav has proved to be more than a handful with Bat in the Series against England , as he played impressive knocks of 35* off 84 balls and 27* off 59 balls in 1st & 2nd innings resp, which helped India to cross the 450-run mark.

Bowling:

Spin bowling is an art which takes lots of time to develop and right now, nobody can explain it better than the No.1 test bowler, R.Ashwin. Yadav is facing a huge dilemma as Ashwin is considered as his main competitor and competing with one’s own teammate is never an easy task.

The former has not let this pressure to impact his performance and is getting all the appreciation that a player expects during the initial moments of his career.

On his debut against England, Jayant Yadav played a pivotal role by claiming a wicket in the first innings and continued his dominance by claiming three more in the second one.

While congratulating Yadav for his performance, R Ashwin said ” Me and Jayant go a long way back actually,” at the post-match press conference.

Fielding:

If we talk about fielding, Yadav’s splendid effort in the deep to run-out Haseeb Hameed in the first innings marked himself as a complete package and an All Rounder that Indian team was searching for.

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli also praised the young talent and said “It’s always priceless those contributions and it speaks volumes of his character. For a young guy to come in and tell his captain the field he wants, the line and length he would bowl, it shows he knows what he is doing. I’m really happy for him”.

Jayant Yadav’s Road to the Indian Cricket Team:

X-Factor:

Gone are the days when a bowler’s job was only to contribute with the ball as nowadays, runs by lower order batsmen often turn the match results, especially in test cricket. Jadav, an off-spinner, has the ability to score quick runs which he already proved in 2nd test against England.

First Class:

  • Delhi-born Jayant Yadav, plays for Haryana in first class Cricket, has contributed in 43 first-class matches and has 121 victims to his name.
  • He made his memorable debut in 2011 at the age of 21. He didn’t left anything to ignore as he took 6 wickets against Gujarat and led his team to victory. After his exceptional debut performance, Yadav couldn’t repeat the same in next two matches that he played in the same Ranji season.
  • Jayant, showed his class in batting as well, played a splendid Double-ton (211), against Karnataka, and made a record-breaking partnership of 392 for the eighth wicket with leg-spinner Amit Mishra.
  • He played his best Cricket in the Ranji season 2014-15, became Haryana’s leading wicket taking bowler with 33 wickets. He also took 13 wickets in a match against Saurashtra and was selected for the India A squad for home series against South Africa A and Bangladesh A.

IPL:

An IPL contract was just a few steps away as IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils hired him in 2015, and he made his IPL debut against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Yadav only got chance in three matches in 2015 IPL season, but proved he could be frugal, ending with an impressive economy rate of 4.14.

Yadav’s hard-work and consistent performances in both First Class Cricket and IPL were warded with a berth in Indian Cricket team.

Though it’s too early to foretell Yadav’s destiny in the Indian team, but I can see a “Star in Making”.

Way To Go Jayant Yadav!!
