Sanju Samson cracked his first Indian Premier League hundred in the IPL 2017 match between Delhi Daredevils and Rising Pune Supergiants, taking his team to a huge win by 97 runs. This was one of the rare moments for Delhi where the team justified their presence in the league and showed what great talent can do under proper guidance.
Sanju Samson’s 102 off 63 and Chris Morris’ unbeaten 38 off 9 balls led Delhi Daredevils to their first ever 200-plus total (205) since April 2012 and it was more than enough to let them taste their first IPL 2017 victory. Rising Pune Supergiants, who were without Steven Smith, their regular captain and best batsman, crumbled in the face against a mounting asking rate, folding up at 108 in 16.1 overs.
Daredevils lost their opening wicket in the form of Aditya Tare who went for a duck, making way for Sanju Samson after the seventh delivery of their innings. The 22-year-old steadied the innings and was there till the 19th over. There were three phases that concluded Samson’s innings. The first 31 runs were made within 14 balls, thrashing every loose delivery and taking the run rate a notch higher. With the introduction of slow bowlers, Samson took a step back and went from 31 on 14 balls to 54 off 45, without even a single boundary.
And then the dragon was unleashed once again. The third phase started with a straight six off Zampa and from there on, Samson made 48 off 17 deliveries, picking up Zampa, again, to finish his hundred with a Six.
Here is Sanju Samson’s blistering innings that included eight beautiful boundaries and five huge sixes.
However, there was another batsman who forced Rising Pune Supergiants’ bowlers to lower their heads as he registered unbeaten 38 runs off just 9 freaking deliveries. It all started in the 16th over when Chris Morris came to the crease after Rishabh Pant went back to the pavilion. The money he came, boundaries and sixes were showered like anything and the one moment that left us awestruck was when on a perfect yorker, just outside the leg-side was chipped away for an unstoppable boundary by Chris Morris.
In the 19th over, Delhi Daredevils were 166 for 4 after Sanju Samson got out and in the next 10 deliveries, Chris Morris unbelievably took the score to 205 runs. This was the final stone to the building that Rising Pune Supergiants couldn’t manage to climb.
