IPL 2017 DD vs GL: Rishabh Pant Disrespected A Massive Target and Knocked Gujrat Lions Out of Playoff Race.
IPL 2017 will always be remembered as the one of the biggest tournament that has given us some of the best young talents and possible additions to the National side. Moreover, the fight for a playoff berth has also intensified after the DD vs GL match.
A packed Feroz Shah Kotla stadium, both Delhi Daredevils and Gujarat Lions needing a victory to keep their qualifying hopes alive, moreover, as expected the hosts opted to bowl first in the match that was going to be one of the highest scoring matches ever.
Suresh Raina and Dinesh Kartik, these two Lions went on to striking the ball with all the intent demolishing every strategy that Karun Nair-led Delhi Daredevils opted for. The number of boundaries these two scores, were enough to take their team to a total of 208 runs.
Delhi Daredevils had not successfully chased a target of 209 runs, ever, and it looked like they are going to end their campaign at the bottom of IPL 2017 tally just like their previous season. But then something magical happened.
Chasing 209 runs is never a walk in the park irrespective of the type of strip you are playing on, but watching Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson demolish the Gujarat Lions’ bowling attack in a spectacular six-hitting spectacle was just simply marvelous. We have already seen earlier what these two are capable of, but on what was one of the most important nights for their side, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson joined forces to cast a spell and left us in awe.
There was simply no end to the carnage these two wicket-keeping batsmen were bringing to Gujarat Lions and they kept clearing the boundary, matching each other’s hits as well. In the first 10 overs, 10 maximums were hit and by the end of 12th over, the tally reached to 15.
Square leg, deep midwicket, long on, you name it, the ball went in every direction. 20 was the number of sixes that were hit during the chase, which helped to set a new IPL record for the most number of sixes in a match i.e. 31 times. Unbelievable, isn’t it?
Words are not enough to express the magic Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson created on the pitch, disrespecting a massive target like this.
Talking about ending someone’s playoff dreams, leaving a team completely demoralized as well as shocked with an assault that no one saw coming their way, we wonder what would have been the case if Rishabh Pant had batted at the top order right from the start of IPL 2017?
